As Matt Schaub enters the final year of his contract, speculation has begun as to whether the Houston Texans will extend their quarterback or wait to negotiate after the season when Schaub’s contract expires. As was first reported by the Houston Chronicle’s John McClain, Schaub will apparently have to wait as the Texans have decided to hold off on offering a long-term extension before the conclusion of the 2012 season.
According to McClain and other sources, the Texans want to wait to make sure Schaub bounces back to 100% health following a lisfranc injury that ended his 2011 season prematurely. At 31 years old, Schaub has encountered several injuries and his durability has been called into question. So far, updates on Schaub’s foot have been overall positive, including news that he has been organizing throwing sessions with the team’s receivers. However, until Schaub puts on the pads and shows he is fully recovered on the field there will remain question marks about his health...
