For the second week in a row, the Houston Texans won in convincing manner as they defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars 27-7 in Jacksonville. Unlike week one however, the Texans dominated from the start and left no doubt as to their superiority over their AFC South rival.

The big stories from week two for the Texans was the reemergence of their rushing attack and their record setting defense.

Offensively, RB Arian Foster ran for 110 yards on 28 carries and one touchdown while RB Ben Tate carried the ball 12 times for 74 yards and 2 TDs. The big difference between yesterday and the Dolphins game was the play of the Texans’ offensive line, which against a solid defensive line reasserted themselves as a domineering unit. The O-line still has a ways to go in terms of improvement and cohesiveness, but better controlled the line of scrimmage against the Jags and opened more holes for Foster and Tate to run through.

More impressive than the Texans’ rushing offense was it’s total defensive effort, limiting the Jags to a franchise-low 117 total yards on offense. The D limited Jags RB Maurice Jones-Drew to just 60 yards on the ground while continually harassing second-year QB Blaine Gabbert, who finished the day 7 for 19 while averaging just 2.8 yards a completion.

The D was once again led by second-year DE J.J. Watt, who finished the day with five tackles, 1.5 sacks, an additional two tackles for a loss, a fumble recovery, and two more pass deflections as the line of scrimmage. The Texans defense as a whole was suffocating, from pass coverage to pressure on Gabbert and of course limiting MJD.

Back on the offensive side of the ball, QB Matt Schaub finished the day 26 of 35 for 195, no TDs or INTs on mostly short patterns and check downs to running backs. Owen Daniels led the way receiving, hauling in six passes for 47 yards, both team highs.

As the only 2-0 team in the NFL with two 20-point victories, the Texans are in great shape heading into their road contest next Sunday against old nemesis Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos.
