Usually in the NFL we know who the elite teams are, but sometimes we have a hard time defining exactly what that means. Do elite teams have shutdown defenses, high-octane offense and great kickers on special teams? Well, as we’ve seen this year, there’s no one qualification. The Denver Broncos, for example, are the hottest team in football. Peyton Manning is putting up touchdowns in historic fashion, and the team’s offense is nearly unstoppable. On defense, the Broncos aren’t exactly shutting opponents down, but they’re doing more than enough to get the job done. The New Orleans Saints, in a similar way, are hanging huge scores on opponents while keeping the opposing team’s offense on the run. Other teams function differently at the elite level. The Patriots, for instance, are riding on Tom Brady’s arm. Their offense isn’t particularly diverse, and their defense isn’t actually a great unit, but Tom Brady is keeping them ahead of much of the league. The Seahawks and Chiefs ar...

Patriots take a chance on “Concussion” Collie

Austin Collie is back in the NFL, he has work outs with almost every team in the NFL, but today he was given another shot.  Let’s face it, Tom Terrific can use Collie if he can turn into the old Colts form.  Collie has been in and out of football with concussions.  He has had […]

Eagles Defenders Were Yelling ‘Papa John’s’ At Peyton Manning

It seemed like every time Peyton Manning yelled “Omaha!” the Eagles would jump offsides. So perhaps Eagles defenders tried a little yelling of their own. Eagles players were heard yelling ‘Papa John’s” prior to Manning snapping the ball during the Broncos 52-20 win. Manning is featured in Papa John’s commercials and owns several franchise locations of the pizza delivery...

Manning driven in 2013 by playoff failure

Great isn't good enough for Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos. They're treating opponents like the scout squad they practice against, moving up and down the field with little resistance, seemingly the only ones who can stop them is themselves. Manning shrugged off yet another record-setting performance in a 52-20 dismantling of the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, saying...

Jason Garrett on Cowboys facing Peyton Manning

IRVING, Texas -- Peyton Manning doesn't play in Arlington for another six days, but the Denver Broncos are up next on the Dallas Cowboys' schedule, so Manning was a popular topic of discussion on Monday. A smiling Jason Garrett looked like a proud father when talking about how well the four-time league MVP is playing. "He's playing quarterback at maybe the highest...

Demaryius Thomas reels in a one-handed TD grab in Denver

Tom Brady Says Patriots Have Small Margin for Error, Still Have ‘Long Way to Go’

The Patriots went into Atlanta on Sunday night and put a stamp on their first landmark win of the season. Even after improving to 4-0 for just the fourth time in his career, Tom Brady still doesn’t seem impressed. “We’re doing OK,” Brady said during his weekly appearance on WEEI’s Dennis and Callahan Morning Show. “We’re just trying to grind it out. Brady threw for...

Manning lights up scoreboard again

NFL Week 5: Philadelphia Eagles Face Must Win Against Giant Division Rival

Last week the Philadelphia Eagles faced one of the more premier teams in league in Peyton Manning and his Denver Broncos. Afternoon Delight: Terrell Sugg's makeover team

With Terrell Suggs going off yesterday about how much he hates Tom Brady's hair, we did some digging. We thought it was weird that Suggs was so obsessed with Brady's hair (mentioning it several times over the years). Turns out Suggs' was originally supposed to be part of the Queer Eye for the Straight Guy crew back whenever that show was on the air. Now it makes a lot...

Week 4 Recap: How Do You Stop The Broncos?

While the NFC boasts a mighty impressive defense from the Pacific Northwest, the most spectacular unit in all of football is the Denver Broncos offense and the debate is not close. Peyton Manning is off to an incredible start to the 2013 season and Week 4 was just another clinic as the heap of offensive weapons at Manning’s disposal shredded the Philadelphia defense. Although the...

Business Blitz: Which NFL East division will get the London franchise?

You've got to hand it to the NFL. Fifteen years of financial loss suffered by NFL Europa hasn't stopped the league from teasing the hearts of Her Majesty's subjects with thoughts of an NFL franchise. Yup. An American football team will make London a big league city. How far would the NFL go to make a London team pay off? Not far enough, I reckon. The NFL kept...

Bet the Mortgage: Week 5, 2013 NFL Best Bets

After amassing a commanding lead, Andy went big in Week 4–and his losses put him back within reach for my bets in Week 5. Andy lost $800 on the Bears, Miami and St. Louis/San Francisco, only picking up one win in the terrible Cardinals/Bucs game. Meanshile, I plodded along at 2-2 for the week–bot lost my two bigger bets ($200 on the Bears straight up and $300 on the Bungles)...

Patriots Survive Late Comeback, Defeat Atlanta 30-23

The Patriots survived a furious comeback from Atlanta late, with Aqib Talib's pass breakup in the end zone preserving a 30-23 win. After going up 30-13, the Patriots gave up a quick 10 points to turn the game into a one possession game. A Tom Brady fumbled snap gave Atlanta the ball back with 1:50 left. One play later, Matt Ryan hit Julio Jones for 49 yards, setting up Atlanta...
