Brandon Weeden’s term as the Cleveland Browns starting quarterback could be coming to an end. Weeden didn’t have the stiller season Browns fans were hoping for when the former brain trust of the Browns, used the 22nd pick in the first round to draft the aging quarterback who failed to make a career in major league baseball. Weeden was the worst in the 2012 rookie class among Q.B.s taken. After watching him in the Browns preseason you had the sense the team was going to have problems putting wins on the board. Watching him in his first NFL start against the Eagles, really had the fans panicking.  He came out of the Philadelphia game with one of the worse quarterback ratings the Cleveland fans have ever seen. The Browns coaching staff refused to make a change and continued to put Weeden out on the field as the Browns starter even though it was clear they had made a serious mistake drafting the 28-year-old  gunslinger from Oklahoma. Weeden finished his rookie season ranked 34th in the f...

D’Qwell Jackson’s contract officially fully guaranteed for 2013

If you were wondering if Browns inside linebacker D’Qwell Jackson would survive the move from Dick Jauron’s 4-3 defense to Ray Horton’s 3-4 scheme, wonder no more.  Since Jackson – unlike 4-3 defensive end Frostee Rucker – remained on the roster past Wednesday, February 6th, his $3.6 million base salary is fully guaranteed for the upcoming season. SN’s 2013 Mock Draft Has The Browns Taking Barkevious Mingo The O.L.B.From L.S.U. With Their #1

The Sports Network’s mock draft had the Cleveland Browns picking Barkevious Mingo with the teams first pick in the first round of the 2013 draft. I think they could be right with the Browns going to the 3-4 defense. I still think the Browns would be better off taking a corner back as the teams first draft. While it would be great to build a solid core of line-backers, the team...

Ryan Mallett to the Browns likely won’t happen

There have been some reports that the Cleveland Browns may look to trade for Patriots back up quarterback Ryan Mallett with the addition of Michael Lombardi to their front office. According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, the Browns aren’t expected to go after Mallett. Even if Lombardi wants Mallett, (which we don’t know) the rest of the Browns front office would...

Chip Kelly is the new head of the Philadelphia Eagles.   He wasn’t a popular choice to coach the Philadelphia Eagles but fortunately for him, Philadelphians are a patient group of people.   …… said no one ever.   It’s no secret, Chip Kelly needs to get off to a rousing start or start … Continue reading »

What moves should the Browns make in free agency?

There is no question that there is a pretty sizable gap between the upper echelon of the NFL and the Browns. The roster as currently constructed is very young but the Browns could make some judicious moves that could help them speed up the process quicker and give them a shot to make a push for the playoffs in 2013. Jimmy Haslam and Joe Banner said they arent going to make moves...

While We’re Waiting… Sunday morning reading

While We’re Waiting serves as the early morning gathering of WFNY-esque information for your viewing pleasure. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email at tips@waitingfornextyear.com. I’d rather the Browns run back Weeden than go with someone like Alex Smith. “There is no question that there is a pretty sizable gap between the upper echelon of the...

Report: Ryan Mallett Not Expected to Be Targeted by Browns in Trade

It appears that Ryan Mallett is going nowhere — for now. The Patriots’ third-year quarterback has been a rumored trade chip ever since he was drafted in the third round out of Arkansas in April 2011. When Mike Lombardi was hired by the Cleveland Browns, the AFC North squad became a likely landing spot for Mallett. The Browns are not expected to trade for Mallett, though, according...

NFL Rumor: Browns listed as prime candidate to steal Flacco from Ravens

The Cleveland Browns could conceivably roll into Year One of the Joe Banner experiment with Brandon Weeden at the helm. They could bring in a cagey veteran to give Weeden a bit of a challenge for the starting spot. They could also try to acquire a questionable cast-aside starter in San Francisco’s Alex Smith. Sports Illustrated’s Peter King, however, things the Browns could...

McGinest: Time for Brady to have talk with Gronkowski

A year after catching flak for being filmed dancing on a badly sprained ankle following the New England Patriots' Super Bowl loss to the New York Giants, Rob Gronkowski TMZed it up again. This time around, the tight end was filmed performing wrestling moves at a Vegas nightclub while sporting a cast on his twice-surgically repaired forearm, which was broken in two different...
