Plaxico Burress was an intriguing proposition for some teams, following his release from prison earlier this year. Prior to his serving time for having a gun, and using it to shoot himself in the leg, Burress was one of the best receivers in the game.
As most will painfully recall, he caught the game-winning touchdown for the New York Giants in the 2007-08 Super Bowl that killed the Patriots perfect season.
During a conference call today with the media, Bill Belichick was asked if he considered bringing Burress to Foxboro, before settling on Chad Ochocinco. The Patriots coach acknowledged the Pats had in fact checked him out.
”We did look at him in the offseason just because of his general availability as we normally do – look at all the players that are not connected with a team,” Belichick said of Burress, who has 10 catches for 160 yards and 2 touchdowns in four games for the Jets. (more…)
