Another week in the books, and the story remains the same. Michael Vick continues to play poorly but Andy Reid is sticking with him. Even with the team’s struggles, SportsBetting.ag shows the Eagles as just three point underdogs on the road in New Orleans in the always hostile Superdome. The Saints have shown some struggles this season as well, but the Eagles haven’t done much to indicate that they should be taken for as real legitimate contender. Although the Saints have been surrounded with more then just poor play recently, it seems like one of the biggest deciding factors for Reid’s decision would be the Saints poor secondary. Currently, they are giving up an average of 304.6 yards per game through the air which is 30th in the league. The fact that they have the second worst run defense in the league (170.1 yards per game) should also be helpful for Vick. However, I don’t think playing an awful defense will necessarily resulting in seeing Vick dominate. They don’t need that type of performance out of him. He just needs to protect the football and get it out of his hands early. Of course, a big factor in this will be the Eagles play calling. Eagles fans have been calling for the team to run the ball for longer than I’d like to remember. Going against a run defense like the Saints have, there wouldn’t be a better time to get into that mentality. As I mentioned though, I lack the confidence in seeing Vick come out and just magically turn it around. So I have to wonder, how long will Reid stick with Vick? I understand the arguments about Vick having a better shot than Nick Foles behind the Eagles struggling offensive line. However, there has to be a tipping point. If Vick continues to turn the ball over and not put more points on the board, what do you have to lose? How long can you let him sink the ship? I honestly don’t think everything is on Vick. They do need to help him. The play calling needs to be better. The line needs to play better. However, there is a large portion of the offensive failures based on his decision making and high number of turnovers. If the Eagles make some changes to try to put Vick in a better position and he doesn’t step up, you have to wonder when Reid may consider pulling the plug. (Photo Credits: Philly.com, USAToday)
