By now, just about every NFL fan has heard about the changes that were approved during last weeks annual meeting of NFL owners. For those that haven’t, here’s a wrap up on the changed rules. The owners voted to change the kickoff line from the 30 to the 35-yard line, effectively making it easier for kickers to record the ever-so-valuable touchbacks and much harder for kick returners to make a dent in the game with big returns. While many NFL fans and teams have cried foul due to the lack of excitement that this new rule will bring, the Saints camp in Metarie has been relatively quiet about the new rule change. It’s probably because over the past several years, the Saints coverage units have been woeful as best, letting opponents start their offensive possessions with relatively good field position on multiple occasions.
