LaDainian Tomlinson is an unrestricted free agent, and the Chargers could use an upgrade at backup running back. Tomlinson has 294 attempts for 1,194 yards over the last two seasons, which is an average of 4.1 yards per attempt. This is not far off from his career average of 4.3 yards per attempt. I am not saying that Tomlinson is anywhere near being the RB he was in the prime of his career. I am saying that he is still productive enough to be a backup running back.
I understand that things deteriorated with Tomlinson the first time around in San Diego. I also understand there was controversy because Tomlinson said “It’s tough being the guy” referring to Philip Rivers last season. ”You get all of the questions of what’s right and what’s wrong.” A.J. Smith responded by saying “I think it’s a lot harder when it’s no longer your team, and you’re not the guy.” I think we are in a day and age where there is t...

New York Jets: What Is A Successful Off-Season?
The upcoming New York Jets off-season is likely going to disappoint a large portion of the team’s fanbase. Every need isn’t going to be filled. That being said, what do the Jets have to take care of, at a minimum, in the upcoming months for Mike Tannenbaum to do a satisfactory job?
It starts up front on both sides of the football, which means getting Sione Pouha signed...
Sizing up Jets Salary Cap
Let me start by first stating how awful I am at math. No seriously. Just plain awful. I use my fingers to add up tips for big checks at restaurants. But I will NOT use my cellphone's tip calculator. You got to draw the line somewhere. In high school, math IV was nearly the downfall of what was lined up to be a most glorious post-graduation bender. Booze, babes and beaches all...
Chargers LB Shaun Phillips joins Katsuya San Diego’s ownership group
Chargers Shaun Phillips is getting into the restaurant business. The linebacker/DJ has partnered up with the SBE restaurant group to bring Katsuya to the San Diego area. “Sam, Matt and the sbe team have created some of my favorite nightlife and dining experiences,” said Phillips. “I’ve been a regular at Katsuya for years and I [...]
Peter Tessier: Jets -Flyers Game Day & My Latest 10 Thoughts
Follow me on Twitter if you want, today I just gave away a promo code for Jets tickets so click HERE!
The Jets hose the Flyers for the fourth and final meeting tonight between the two teams. The Jets have a perfect 3-0-0 record on the line against the Flyers while Philly comes in as 0-2-1 against the Jets (thank the NHL for that oddity). The Jets have scored 17 goals in three...
Peyton Manning to the Jets?
Thanks, Jaws. I guess the best way for everyone to forget you were booted off the Monday Night Football crew is to go on local radio and be the "NFL insider" correspondent. Ron Jaworski went on the 97.5 in Philly and talked with Mike Missanelli. Jaworski, like many of us, believe Peyton won'y be back in a Colts uniform.Instead of the Colts, he thinks the Jets would...
Signing Cliff Avril would give the Chargers a proven pass rusher at defensive end
The San Diego Chargers were ranked second as a team during the 2010 NFL season with 47 sacks, but they dropped 21 spots and were ranked 23rd during the 2011 season with 32 sacks. Shaun Phillips averaged nine sacks per season from 2005-2010, but had just 3.5 during the 2011 season. Phillips fought through an injured foot which caused him to miss four games in 2011, so he could...
PFW: Wayne to Chargers?
Pro Football Weekly has an inside source that tells them Reggie Wayne would be an ideal replacement for Vincent Jackson who may walk:
If Vincent Jackson departs in free agency, the Chargers are going to need a No. 1 wide receiver. According to one team insider, that person could be Reggie Wayne, who is a free agent after 11 seasons with the Colts. Wayne played in a vertical passing...
Draft Review: 2009
NFL executives often say it takes three years to fully evaluate a draft class. That makes this the ideal time to take a look back at the class of 2009. Although that draft started with a dud, as A.J. Smith opted for Larry English ahead of Clay Matthews, the Chargers still came away with a trio of productive players.
