ESPN - Boston So now we fast-forward to 2013. Moss is scheduled for unrestricted free agency and Pro Football Talk is reporting he'd like to play again. The Patriots' equivalent to Moss in terms of No. 3 role this past season was Deion Branch, who played almost the same percentage of snaps as Moss. He is also a free agent (key stats: 16 catches, 145 yards, 0 TDs). In terms of each receiver's skill set at this stage of their careers, one could make the case that Moss' vertical presence would be a better fit with the Patriots next season (the vertical element has been lacking since Moss' departure). If the Patriots could be assured that they'd be getting the Moss locker room presence of 2007/2012, and not the Moss of 2010, perhaps it would be an option they'd consider in a reshaped receiver corps that will also likely include an infusion of youth. Just thinking out loud. First off, what planet am I on that Deion Branch was the No 3 receiver? 1. Welk...

Randy Moss: ‘I’m the greatest receiver ever to play this game’

Randy Moss doesn’t talk to the media very often, but when it was mandatory he take part of Super Bowl media day on Tuesday, he did not disappoint. From NFL.com: “I think now that I’m older, I do think I’m the greatest receiver to ever do it,” Moss said from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. “This year has been a down year for me, statistically. The year before I retired was...

Randy Moss says he’s the greatest of all time, mum on future with 49ers

During today’s Super Bowl media day,  San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Randy Moss called himself the greatest wide receiver of all time. “I do think I’m the greatest receiver ever to play this game,” said Moss. Moss was also asked if he wants to come back and play for the 49ers next season.  He answered by saying he’s not sure.   There was a report that Moss plans on...

Randy Moss Says He’s The Greatest WR of All Time; Do You Agree?

There was a time when Moss was the most feared wide receiver of all time. If Jerry Rice was more of a Jason Bourne type of assassin on the field, Randy Moss was Tony Montana. Where does he rank all time? I think the majority of people would have him Top 5 and everyone should at least have him in their Top 10. Moss though who is trying to get the elusive ring protection thinks he...

Randy Moss Says He’s the Greatest WR Ever … Is He?

You gotta love Media Day during Super Bowl week. The week before the Super Bowl is mayhem, but also a lot of fun. I was lucky enough to be on a business trip in Indianapolis last year, a week prior to the Super Bowl, and the town was electric. It was quite an experience. Media day is one of the highlights of Super Bowl week, but not for its hard-hitting news or great analysis and...

It’s Media Day leading up to Super Bowl XLVII and everyone in the media has been hoping for some standout material from some of the game’s participants. Thank you, Randy Moss. In his Media Day appearance Moss made it clear that he feels that he’s greatest wide receiver to play the game. Randy Moss says he’s the best receiver in NFL history, Jerry Rice says run the numbers

The first step to being the best, is believing. It’s how shooter’s pull themselves out of a slump. It’s why quarterback’s believe they’ll make that next play. It’s part of the equation for success. So when Randy Moss told reporters during Super Bowl media day that he was the best wide receiver ever, I didn’t mind. Moss has played for 14 seasons, the last two haven...

Randy Moss Is Not Best Wide Receiver in NFL History, Title Still Belongs to Jerry Rice

The greatest wide receiver in NFL history did wear a 49ers uniform, but he won’t be sporting one out on the field at the Superdome on Sunday. Randy Moss will be lining up on the outside for the Niners in Super Bowl XLVII, but no matter what he says he’s not the greatest wide receiver to ever step on a football field. He’s not even the greatest to ever wear a 49ers jersey. So...

Moss vs. Rice? Crabtree casts his vote

NEW ORLEANS -- Randy Moss is making Super Bowl Week news by proclaiming himself "the greatest receiver to ever do it.'' Jerry Rice is responding by saying, "Put my numbers against his numbers.'' An expert witness to settle the debate? How about a guy who plays for the same San Francisco 49ers team that Moss now plays for, the same 49ers team that Rice once...

49ers, A.J. Jenkins’ rookie season a failure

The San Francisco 49ers were dominant enough as a team to ascend to Super Bowl XLVII, but 49ers A.J. Jenkins’ rookie season was a failure. Head Coach Jim Harbaugh has defended the young wide receiver over five months ago, Jenkins “is going to be an outstanding football player”, but that doesn’t change the fact that he was a first round pick who was placed on the practice...

49ers have more to prove than the Ravens

It’s been a long time since the San Francisco 49ers were in a Super Bowl. The last time was January 29, 1995 at Joe Robbie Stadium in Miami as Steve Young was the quarterback and George Seifert was the coach. Some of the other key players on that team were Jerry Rice, Deion Sanders, Dana Stubblefield, and Tim McDonald just to name a few. The franchise hungered badly for the Lombardi’s...

Super Bowl Pick 'Em

It's a sad day when the Pick 'Em game gets down to a single contest, as it means that we have to wait another 7 months to watch a meaningful NFL game.  Raj managed to come out of Championship Weekend with a strong 2 point lead.  However, with the Super Bowl pick counting as double and the MVP pick counting for a point, his lead is not safe.  In the event of a tie-breaker...

If You Have To Say It, That Says It All

Work The Rubes, Boys Two brief points about today's Super Bowl Media Day layups... 1) Ray Lewis denies PED use I was never really a Michael Jordan fan. I knew I was watching the best player of his generation and one of the best of all time, and I rooted for him when he played teams that I hated more than his Bulls... but in terms of rooting for him, there was always a meanness...
