AZCentral.com reports that starting ILB Gerald Hayes had back surgery this summer, and will not be on the field when camp kicks off next week:
Cardinals starting inside linebacker Gerald Hayes underwent back surgery this summer and is not expected to practice when training camp begins next week. Hayes, a starter for the past four seasons, has been troubled by a bulging disc since last season. He missed most of the team’s off-season workouts, but he thought he could avoid surgery. Coach Ken Whisenhunt said Hayes underwent “a procedure” on his back several weeks ago and will be evaluated next week when players take physicals before reporting to camp in Flagstaff on July 30. “We’ll determine then what his rehab protocol is,” Whisenhunt said. Hayes’ ongoing problems are troubling to the Cardinals, who are thin at the two inside linebacker positions.
