In the 2009 NFL Draft, the Eagles should be getting a pick in the teens (currently #13) and mid 20's pick (via Panthers). After checking a few mock drafts, the top 3 OL could be off the board. One player I've been keeping my eye on is Knowhon Moreno. The guy is a freak. The two mock drafts that I checked have him going in the range of 18-24. Assuming the top OTs are taken, the Eagles should get a stud at RB. We don't have to draft defense. There's no stud at safety out there to fill Brian Dawkins' shoes in the future and it wouldn't be bad to have two Quitin's in the back of the secondary down the road. I say the Eagles use their first draft pick on Georgia RB Knowshon Moreno with their first, rist-round pick and with their second, first-round pick, they can perhaps get the Oklahoma State TE or a top offensive lineman. Knowshon Moreno's Freshmen Highlights (SEE LINK). (You're just going to have to wait until Knowshon is done doing ...
Comments 1-50 (of 59):
  • I think the Eagles will take an OL and a S with their first round picks. 1. Duke Robinson-OG(Oklahoma) and Kam Chancellor(Virginia Tech).

  • Yeah, they need an OT like Eugene Monroe or Michael Oher. But if they can't grab either of them, they have to go Knowshon (if available) at the 13th spot.
  • dont you think they will take a tackle instead of a guard though? Since we have guards cole, gilles, andrews, herramans.
  • Here is how I will execute (follow link at end on how this can be done):

  • I'm not buying the whole big back, small back stuff. Look at the DeAngelo Williams and Johnathan Stewart situation. Stewart is a bit big, but the bottom line is that he's explosive. Moreno is explosive. Beanie Wells is OK, but Moreno, I think, will be a much better player. Moreno is like Adrian Peterson. He's a game changer. A complete athletic freak. Watch his highlights.
  • Stewarts a big back, not as big as Jacobs but who is? Give me Shonn Green anyday to take some of the workload off Westbrook. He won't cost a 1st round pick so if it doesnt work out...its no big deal. Oh and Knowshons pretty damn good...but hes no Shady!
  • First of all we won't be drafting that high. Second Moreno would be a waste of a pick at that slot. We need a physical running back, not another speed and finesse back. We all know we're getting at least ONE lineman. Oher, Monroe, and Andre Smith = no chance in hell (all top 10.) Ciron Black COULD slip to us, but I doubt it. Jason Smith, Robinson and Loadholt all seem much more likely for us. I'd love to see them take a TE, but there are none worth a 1st round pick. Keep in mind we also need a safety, but William Moore would be the only guy available to us (and worth the 1st round pick) available to us. Maybe they'll shock us all and trade both picks to move up...but I doubt it.
  • How about adding a kicker to your list? akers has been hitting from 40 in but it would be nice to have someone that could at least try a fifty yarder. maybe Colt David, Thomas Weber ot Daniel Lincoln...

I agree we need a tight end that can do some damage blocking. How about Jermaine Gresham, Travis Beckim or Brandon Pettigrew?
  • Beckum doesn't have the size and Greshams pretty soft. I love Pettigrew though. I didn't mention a kicker because I was talking about the 1st round and we wouldnt see a kicker taken til round 5, if then.
  • knowing the eagles front office they would draft a kicker in the 1st round.
  • I think Pettigrew would be the best option at TE.
  • See my comments below! Moreno is no waste!
  • yea i love that kid and im predicting Tra Thomas staying, and us getting a RB and a TE, not to mention Dez Bryant (God willing), and if we have that team with McNabb it will be a great season probably the season we were hoping for this season
  • this sounds crazy and i know and youll probably say one of them is old, but i bet you he can still make plays.... tony gonzalez and larry johnson both want out of KC... theres a big back and a TE right there... how bout a run at those 2? Remember, it was only 2 years ago when larry johnson was one of the top 3 backs in the league...

  • I highly doubt the G-men will let Jacobs get away.
  • Why would you invest a high first round pick on a running back? Hasn't the past decade shown over and over again that you can find high value in the 3rd round and beyond with RBs? Their shelf life is usually about 4 years or so. I would rather have a physical specimen to replace Thomas and Runyan on the O line and a scare the bejesus out of you safety to take over for B Dawk with my first rounders and then use a second or third on a running back. Brandon Jacobs was a third rounder, Marion Barber was a 3rd rounder as well.....the list goes on and on (not to mention B West)
  • All valid point. I'm just saying if the value at OL isn't there, Moreno has to be worth a mid-teen pick. Maybe the Eagles end up at 17. If he's around at 17 and the top 3 OL are off the board, you have to go Moreno.
  • I could really care less who the Eagles draft in the 1st round as long as they draft someone.
  • Now that's funny I don't care who you are (as Larry the Cable guy would say).
  • haahahahaha... well played sir!! lol....
  • If you want a running back, look no further than Jersey's own Shonn Green. He should be available in the 3rd round and the dude is just what we need. A hard nosed physical runner who offers a change of pace from Westbrook.
  • HERE IT IS FOLKS, STRAIGHT FROM THE BOTTOM LINE:
No on Knowshon. Reasons? 1) They guy is running through holes the size of my livingroom. He won't see that in the pros. 2) Show me ONE highlight where he one-on-one runs OVER a guy. Westbrook runs through arm tackles but,we lack a real bruiser (e.g. Bettis, Jacobs, remember Duce Staley?) who can convert 3rd and 3 routinely.

  • DTRIK19, I'll give you one very good reason not to pass on fast smallish backs: CHRIS JOHNSON! Moreno will be in the same class as Adrian Peterson, Reggie Bush, Cadillac Williams (before getting injured), Warrick Dunn, Marshall Faulk, Brian Westbrook, and LaDainian Tomlinson.

The guy is 207 lbs. That's about 10-15 lbs. less than Adrian Peterson and LaDainian Tomlinson ie at 21-years-old!

This guy is going to be a SPECIAL player. The Eagles thought Hunt would be a pound-it back in the 3rd round and how did that turn out? They can't let this opportunity slip away from them.

Do the Titans regret drafting Chris Johnson? Do the Vikings regret drafting Peterson? Do the Dolphins regret drafting Ronnie Brown? Do the Saints regret drafting Reggie Bush? Do the Chargers regret drafting LT? Do the Bears regret drafting Matt Forte (same weight as Knowshon, but 3" taller)? Do the Cowboys regret drafting Felix Jones? NO!!!!!

    DRAFT KNOWSHON IF AVAILABLE!!!!
  • Well keep your hardon for him...I don't want him in an Eagles jersey. Shonn Green would be a MUCH better fit. I'm not saying Moreno isn't talented because he is...he just wouldnt fit here. and Tony Hunt? haha I said from draft day he wouldn't be anything...he's from Penn State.
  • The Eagles have too many holes on the O-line to consider a running back in the first round. That running back needs lanes to run through no matter who he is. There's plenty of talented running backs that'll probably be available then. Shon Greene, Rashad Jennings out of Liberty, Javon Ringer(Michigan St) and James Davis(Clemson) to name a few. You have two fossils at tackle and your right guard, which may be the best in the league, is a head case. The other two linemen could be replaced by better players if they become available.....Running back is far from a 1st round priority on this squad.
  • Javon Ringer may not be alive come draft day. Hes too little to be used as hard as he is, gotta wonder how long he can hold up.

  • Well we all know what Andy will do he will trade his first pick for a large NY style cheese pizza, and his second first round pick for a platter of buffalo wings. So once again all we are @$$ed out in the draft. Personally I agree Knowshon Moreno will be a good fit in the back field. With their 2nd pick in the first round they should draft one of these two WRs if available Deon Butler or Jordan Shipley. I have been watching Shipley this season and he would be perfect as a #2 to DeSean Jackson or a good slot man, as for a TE the Eagles should send a package deal of Sheppard and Brown to San Fran for Vernon Davis.
  • Neither Shipley nor Butler are 1st round picks so why waste one on either of them? Butler sucks anyway, he just has the fortune of playing with Williams. That being said why add another 6' or 5'10 WR? Don't we have enough small speedy guys???? That won't help us much in the red zone now will it? Also I'm pretty sure there si no chance in hell of prying V Davis away from SF.
  • javon ringer is the best back in college football, hes small but that kid is built like a brick sh*t house... hes the most durable back in the nation, hes strong and fast... demarco murray from oklahoma, 6'1 205, just as talented and fast as knowshon, but bigger and stronger, beanie wells, 6'1 240, weve all seen his abilities, the only knock on him is his durability... hell no to knowshon
  • How is Ringer the best RB in college football? Anybody can have great numbers when they carry the ball 30 times a game. All of his big games were against horrible teams (EMU, FAU, ND, IU, Mich.) He did great against Iowa, Ohio State, and Penn State, and Wisconsin didn't he? The career of a running back is shortened with every carry. How long of a career can this guy possibly have???
  • when you carry the ball 30 times a game and maintain a career avg of almost 6 yrds a carry without 1 fumble in your entire collegiate career, thats impressive no matter who you play... he wont be utilized as much in the pros, if you put this kid on a team with a balanced offense with somewhat of a decent passing game, hell tear the nfl apart...
  • He's barely averaging 4 yards a carry this year. I believe its 4.3 if my memory serves me correct. This kid is nothing special.
  • dude youre smokin something silly... this kid is special... oh you know what i forgot im sorry, youre the same character that thinks kevin kolb is good and will be our future franchise QB... u also wouldve drafted devin thomas in the 1st round last year too, that was your boy, good call on that one... stay out of writing about college ball brother, you know nothing
  • Unfortunately even if the Giants don't re-sign Jacobs he will likely be Franchised and you know this Group at the helm will never pay the going rate for a player as far as picks go. But could you imagine we finally get the big back we have never had. But hey Reid and crew only listen to themselves about WR,FB,TE's and RB's. Hell look how long it took to get above average LB's. FANS do not matter to this organization simple as that.
  • "FANS do not matter to this organization" Why would you expect the FO of ANY team to listen to it's fan base? Sports fans are such a wide mix of people who varying opinions and every one of them thinks they know best. And I won't even get into the various level of "education" a majority of NFL fans possess. The only thing they should care about is fan attendance and merchandise/food sales. Last time I checked theres a long, long waiting for season tickets, beers are $7 with very long lines and Eagles are one of the top merchandising teams in the league. Its a business, plain and simple. They seemingly gave into the fan's requests a couple of times (T.O and Kearse.) How'd that work out??? So sorry to break it to ya but your opion doesn't matter to them and nor should it.
  • The fans wanted DeSean Jackson! How did that one work out? I was calling for him in December 2007.
Check the archives of my site: www.allphiladelphiasports.com
  • haha you honestly believe they drafted Desean because some fans were clamouring for him? Don't kid yourself, they drafted him because Andy liked him. If the Eagles drafted players WE wanted, we would have had Ricky Williams.
  • Just saying the fans sometimes know what they're talking about. And without the fans yelling "look at DeSean Jackson," he might have been looked over by the Eagles. You just think you know everything, don't you?
  • The funny thing is the fans are sometimes a bit smarter than some of those owners and coaches all around sports
  • No thats just what you like to tell yourself. They've done something right to get themselves into that position in most cases (exception --> a Rooney or 2.) If the Eagles were run by half the fans on here...the franchise would cease to exist.
  • dude i am joking calm down, i know that but i am just making fun of what the coaches decisions are sometimes their play calling is just completely horrible u know what i mean
  • no, please no Kolb he sucks
  • please did Ryan or Flacco look good after a week of practice and reps with a first team O, Hell no! Give him a few games. He's going to be a stud
  • About time somebody sticks up for the guy. He had 1 game against the best defense in the league and because he threw 2 INTs he's automatically a bust. Some peoples expectations are way too high, thinking he'll come in the second half and instantly play like Dan Marino.
  • what do you think the expectations are supposed to be? He was our 1st pick in the draft last year and hes the supposed replacement to a QB who's been one of the best QB's in the league for the past 10 years. those 2 picks he threw are unforgiveable as well. he clearly displayed he doesn't have the arm to get the ball down the field to desean jackson because one of his pics was an underthrown deep ball up the sidelines to desean. his other pic was a cardinal sin... tryin to force the ball into coverage in the endzone and getting it picked. as for all of those dink and dunk passes he was completing on that drive to the endzone, you or i couldve done the same thing because the defense was in an "umbrella" givin those dump offs to kolb. the guy is terrible man, im sorry to say it... he hasnt shown ONE sign of promise, pre-season or in the game against baltimore, i dont care what their defense was ranked....
