Raiola: 'I let a lot of people down'

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Dominic Raiola has played 12 years in the NFL and never had anything happen to him like the ending in Detroit Lions 44-41 overtime loss Sunday at Tennessee. With fourth-and-inches at the Titans 7-yard line, the Lions wanted to try to draw the defense off-sides before having to settle for a game-tying field goal. The only thing that could turn it into a disaster...

Jim Schwartz does not get enough credit for Lions success

Jim Schwartz does not get enough credit for what he has accomplished with the Detroit Lions, since 2009. Detroit hasn’t had a lot of luck over the last decades, not just with the Auto Industry, but the play of the football team as well. The Lions had their worst season in history in 2008, but also the worst season in the history of the NFL. Schwartz inherited a football team, that...

Jim Schwartz Monday press conference recap: Tennessee Titans edition

It was an ugly homecoming for Jim Schwartz in Tennessee, as the Titans pulled out a shocking win against the Detroit Lions, sending them to 1-2. As expected, there were plenty of issues to dissect this Monday, including the mysterious decision making in overtime, the inability of the special teams to contain kicks and the defense's porous nature, which allowed plenty of big plays...

Lions have dealt with unlikely ups and downs

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. Jim Schwartz's aggressive tendencies helped turn the Detroit Lions from the laughingstock of the NFL into a playoff team in three years after becoming the team's coach in 2009 following Detroit's infamous 0-16 season. That aggressiveness had been heralded in pulling a team out of a playoff drought that had spanned 12 seasons. The Lions went 10-6...

Lions will determine Mathew Stafford’s status on Friday

According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, Lions head coach Jim Schwartz didn’t have any comments on the results of Mathew Stafford’s MRI.  He said he’ll make a determination on his status by Friday. At this point I think Stafford will be ready to go next week.

Lions coach Schwartz mum over Stafford's MRI

Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz told the Detroit Free Press Monday he had no comment on an MRI taken on quarterback Matthew Stafford. Stafford left Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans in the fourth quarter with a leg injury. Shaun Hill took over for Stafford with the Lions trailing. He forced the game into overtime on a Hail Mary at the end of regulation. The Titans...

Lions mum on QB Stafford's leg

Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz isn't saying much about quarterback Matthew Stafford's injured right leg. Stafford left late in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 44-41 overtime loss at Tennessee with a strained muscle, and although Shaun Hill played well in a relief role, the last thing the Lions want is a return to the days when their franchise quarterback wasn't...

Lions To Make Decision On Matthew Stafford Friday

Lions coach Jim Schwartz said he had no update on quarterback Matthew Stafford (leg) or the MRI Stafford received Monday. Schwartz said he would make a decision by Friday.Fantasy Spin:If you want to be safe and don't have a quality backup on your roster, use a waiver claim on backup Shaun Hill, who played well in the substitute role.

Players, coaches now testing replacement officials

New England coach Bill Belichick was confused about a decisive field goal he thought was off-target. Detroit's Jim Schwartz couldn't understand a 27-yard penalty walk-off for unnecessary roughness. Philadelphia's Andy Reid felt ignored while trying to decline a penalty. The furor over the work of replacement officials reached something of a fevered pitch during Week...

Corey Williams out Sunday after knee surgery, Matthew Stafford returns to practice

Lions head coach Jim Schwartz announced Thursday that defensive tackle Corey Williams had knee surgery earlier this week and will be out of action this weekend against Minnesota. Tim Twentyman of the team’s website went further saying that Williams is week-to-week as he recovers from a procedure that was done to clean things up and keep him on the field more consistently in the...
