Heading into last week’s game, the Indianapolis Colts had their best grouping of offensive linemen for the entire season. And it looked to be a unit on the verge of major improvement as the post-season approaches.

Then injuries happened.
It started with a concussion to Joe Reitz a week ago against the Houston Texans, which was followed by an injury to offensive guard Hugh Thornton during the week.
Add to that, the fact that Jeff Linkenbach was already on the injury report, and that left the Colts with only 6 total linemen.
One of which was a rookie center, Khaled Holmes, who hadn’t even been active for most of the season.
The Colts did call up practice squad center Thomas Austin, but that’s just for precautionary measures.
So, unfortunately, we will be seeing the dreaded duo of Mike McGlynn at guard and Samson Satele at center.
Sure, Justin Houston of the Kansas City Chiefs is inactive today but he’s an outside pass rusher. The interior defensive line of the Chiefs is formidable; one that McGlynn and Satele definitely will have a difficult time managing.
Tyson Jackson , Dontari Poe and Mike DeVito are chomping at the bit in anticipation of facing this interior line.
And don’t forget about offensive tackle turned guard Xavier Nixon: an undrafted free agent out of Florida who is playing out of position in his first season as an NFL player.
Hopefully, come playoff time, the offensive line is healthy and ready to go with Reitz, Mcglynn and Thornton manning the interior positions. But for today it looks like an area of concern for the horseshoe.
The Indianapolis Colts may not be their own worst enemy. But their offensive line surely is.
It will be the unit to watch in a game against an 11-3 Chiefs team. If the three interior linemen can hold the Chiefs at bay, Luck and the offense could thrive against a struggling Chiefs secondary.
If not, it’s going to be another long day for this franchise quarterback.
Here’s to hoping the big boys in blue can hold their own. Go Colts!
