Indianapolis Colts re-sign punter and fan favorite Pat McAfeeBoy, has it been a busy week for the Indianapolis Colts. And it’s not over yet. Punter and beloved Indianapolis personality, Pat McAfee, signed a 5-year $14-million contract today with $5 million of that being guaranteed. According to several sources on twitter, that makes him the 8th-highest paid punter in the league. I’m glad the Colts got this deal done and didn’t overspend too much to do so. I expected the Colts to have to dish out $3 million or more in order to retain McAfee, but his per-year average is a little under that, at $2.8 million. $2.8 million for a guy that makes countless touchdown saving tackles, and entertains the Indianapolis community on a daily basis? I’d say that’s a pretty good deal. Game saving tackle Exhibit A: The question is, what does this mean for kicker Adam Vinatieri? How much money does this front office want to tie up on just the kicker and punter? I expect Vinatieri to be signed to a 1 or 2-year deal, and considering he is 41-years old, that may be the extent of his career anyways. Luckily, the Colts have the cap space to keep both these guys on the roster and still add some talent on the defensive and offensive side of the ball. Free agency hasn’t even officially begun yet and the Colts have already been a very active team. And so far, so good. Let’s just hope GM Ryan Grigson keeps making the right moves and helps this team achieve head coach Chuck Pagano’s goal of hoisting that Lombardi Trophy, in 2014. Go Colts! Oh and not to mention we get to watch more of these little gems: isportsweb | isportsweb - Sports in Perspective
