1.24 Indianapolis Colts Bjoern Werner, DE, Florida State (6-3¼, 266)  With the twenty-fourth selection in this year’s NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts select defensive end Bjoern Werner from Florida State.  The German-born defender may not be the fastest or biggest guy on the board, but he sure has a top-notch motor that does not stop no matter the workload he gets on the defensive line.  He brings his all to the field day in and day out, and this shows in his production.  He jumps the snap well to make up for an average burst off the line and this makes him an excellent pass rusher.  Werner plays low with his pads and has the core strength to provide the power to push the offensive linemen back.  He has great hands and leverage that can give him the edge to perform counter-moves to get to the ball in the backfield. This pick brings up some questions for the Colts.  They are moving towards a 3-4 defensive scheme, but selected a guy that fits more as a 4-3 defensive end.  The Colts ...

Indianapolis Colts 2013 NFL Draft: Potential Day 2 Targets

After getting DE Bjoern Werner #24 overall, who will the Colts add in day 2?    Day 2 of the 2013 NFL Draft starts today at 6:30, and the first few hours could be slightly boring for Indianapolis Colts fans. The Colts do not have a 2nd round pick, trading that away to the Dolphins last year for CB Vontae Davis. Davis provided steady – if not stellar – play at the corner position...

Indianapolis Colts 2013 NFL Draft: Willkommen, Bjoern Werner

With the 24th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts selected Bjoern Werner, DE out of Florida State. So, what do Colts fans know about the young man from Berlin, Germany? Well, to start with, he’s young (only 22), and comes in at 6’3″ and 266 lbs. At that size, he could potentially play DE in the Colts 3-4 scheme, but head coach Chuck Pagano has already come out...

Werner eager to get started in Indianapolis

Bjoern Werner couldn't wait to get to the NFL. Now he can't believe he's soon going to start hearing Colts coach Chuck Pagano bellowing out instructions. Indianapolis' first-round draft pick arrived in town Friday afternoon, met with Pagano and much of the Colts' brain trust and then spent about 30 minutes explaining everything from the correct pronunciation...

The Colts' Twitter account provided a harsh assessment of a draft prospect when a fan brought up the player's name.

Colts Trade Up in the 5th Round to Select Montori Hughes

The Colts have come out of nowhere and traded up in the 5th round. They selected Montori Hughes, DT from Tennessee Martin. The Colts have made their first move by trading up to get Montori Hughes. Hughes has had a ton of off the field issues and got dismissed from Tennessee. Many experts believe that had he had no off the field issues, he'd be a 2nd rounder. He is super talented...

Colts select Josh Boyett in the 6th Round

The Colts have used their 6th round pick on Josh Boyett, safety out of Oregon. They finally used a pick on a safety! Safety is a position where there is no depth and not many bodies. They needed a good backup and special teamer. That will most likely be Boyett. Boyett is an undersized (5'9 205) safety who hits hard and looks solid in coverage. Boyett does have a lot of injury...

Indianapolis Colts listening to Offers for #24 Pick

The Indianapolis Colts could be moving on draft night. They have been receiving a lot of offers from many teams looking to trade into the first round.A thing that we see every year are teams that trade into the first round. They have their eye on a guy they like and they go for him. They usually have to get a lot, but they usually get their guy. The 2012 Vikings were a great example...

Werner a nice pick for Colts at #24

With the 24th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft the Colts took Bjoern Werner, German-born defensive end from Florida State. Sehr gut. I like the pick. And, point of interest, he’s the first guy named Bjoern to ever be drafted in the NFL. To be honest, when I saw Xavier Rhodes was still available at this pick I was pretty excited about the Colts picking up the big corner from Florida State...

Mr. Irrelevant is Justice Hamilton... Woops, sorry Justice Cunningham

The Colts have selected Justice Cunningham, tight end from South Carolina, with the last pick in the draft. Paul Solata, the announcer of the final pick, accidentally screwed up the name.Justice Cunningham is a big tight end with good hands. He played at South Carolina, in a good offense. He lacks consistency and is not a great athlete. As of right now, he will have to fight for...

Colts listening to offers for 24th overall pick in 2013 NFL Draft

According to Kareem Copeland of NFL.com, the Indianapolis Colts have been talking to teams about the 24th overall pick the team owns in the 2013 NFL Draft. Several teams have contacted general manager Ryan Grigson to work a deal. The Colts could trade down and gain more picks to build on a very successful return to winning ways in 2012. The spot is outside of the reach for...

Colts take Hugh Thornton in 3rd round

They did go O-Line with their next pick (#86 overall), and I’m happy with that. The Colts picked up Illinois guard, Hugh Thornton. Nice to see them pick up a Big Ten guy. Seems to be both a good run and pass blocker. Some have said he has slow lateral speed, but works well going forward. Regardless, they need depth at the position and it’s a good move. This is the kind of move...

The rest of the draft for the Colts

If “Championships are won in the later rounds”, then the Colts have some work to do with their remaining picks. They don’t have a 2nd rounder nor a 5th rounder at this point. Unless trades happen they are sitting at pick #86 (Round 3), #121 (Round 4), #192 (Round 6), #230 (Round 7), and Mr. Irrelevant at #254 (Round 7). I’d like to see them pick up another O-Lineman and probably...

Indianapolis Colts select Bjoern Werner

The Indianapolis Colts have selected Bjoern Werner, defensive end from Florida State. The Colts now have another pass rusher in Bjoern Werner. He's a 4-3 DE, but has the ability and versatility to become a 3-4 OLB. He is a tremendous athlete who doesn't do one thing extremely well, but does everything very well. He had 13 sacks this last season.Werner should compete for the...

Crazy Colts Fan - 2013 NFL Draft a Solid One for the Indianapolis Colts

Crazy Colts Fan - 2013 NFL Draft a Solid One for the Indianapolis Colts The good thing about needing a number of spots strengthened or filled is that the team really couldn't go wrong with many of its early picks (as long as they didn't take a punter or kicker--which they didn't). Now that the draft is done, and there has been time to digest the picks the team has...
