The Indianapolis Colts made huge strides in the 2012 NFL Draft when they decided to change the look of the franchise. Now we all know the biggest move they made in the draft was when they chose quarterback Andrew Luck to be the quarterback of the future; that’s a no brainer. Wide receiver T.Y. Hilton was another no brainer that the Colts added to their roster. With Hilton having career stats of 1,944 yards on 132 receptions and having 12 touchdowns in the process, the speedy receiver has made a quick impact in the NFL since day one. Hilton has tremendous speed that he uses to beat defenders deep down the field for big gains. When you watch the tape of Hilton, you see a receiver who burns defensive backs with quick moves and cuts that keeps defenders guessing. Hilton is in the best situation he could be in with the Colts. Veteran wide receiver Reggie Wayne is the perfect mentor for Hilton and even recently drafted receiver Donte Moncrief. Wayne has never been known for being the fastest receiver in the game, but his technique for beating opposing defenses has been with great route running. If Wayne is able to work with Hilton and teach him how to become a better route runner, Hilton has potential to be not only one of the best receivers, but probably the best in the game. When Wayne went down in 2013 due to suffering an ACL injury, Hilton was looked at as Luck’s main weapon to use at his disposal. While he started off slow, Hilton was able to find his grove and help carry the load at the receiver position. Look for Wayne to come back strong in 2014 and be back to his original self before he had his previous season end early. Hilton is working to prepare himself for the day that he becomes Luck’s number one target. When you think about it, Wayne is getting older and is probably nearing the edge of an amazing career. Recently signed former New York Giants receiver Hakeem Nicks only agreeing to a one-year deal with the Colts, his 2014 campaign with the franchise could only be one to show teams around the league how much he still has to offer and test the free agent market the following offseason. So with all this happening in the next couple of years, Hilton will be forced into being the guy in Indianapolis. Look for him to shine when he is given the opportunity to do so.
