The San Diego Chargers were hoping second-year linebacker Melvin Ingram would become a major contributor for the team in 2013. Now it looks like he'll be sitting out the entire season. First reported by the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and later confirmed by the team, Ingram does indeed have an ACL tear in his left knee. We're still awaiting word on the extent of the tear, whether it's partial or complete. If complete, he'll need surgery and likely be out the entire 2013 season. Melvin Ingram sustained a torn ACL in his left knee during OTA practice today. No other information was released. — San Diego Chargers (@chargers) May 15, 2013 That's not good news for the Chargers, who are pretty thin at linebacker. Although Ingram didn't have a great rookie season, only one start in 16 games, there were high hopes for him in 2013. NFL.com's Dan Hanzus writes: 'The injury leaves the Chargers extremely thin at outside linebacker. Two options last season -- Shaun Phillips and Antwan Barnes -- left the team in free agency. Don't be surprised if the Chargers enter the mix for veterans Dwight Freeney and John Abraham. The loss of Ingram leaves a serious void in San Diego's pass rush.
