The Oakland Raiders new tight end Kevin Boss will miss the team’s first game of 2011-12 due to a knee strain he suffered in the preseason. Boss suffered the injury on August 20 against the San Francisco 49ers and has not practiced since. The Raiders signed Boss to a four-year-deal worth  $16 million after losing star tight end Zach Miller to the Seattle Seahawks in free agency. The Raiders have three other tight ends on their 53-man roster, with Richard Gordon, David Ausberry, and Brandon Meyers behind the former New York Giants player on head coach Hue Jackson’s depth chart. Myers, who will likely start on Monday, is up for the challenge. “I’m confident in myself and my abilities. I just feel like my play has been consistent. I think that’s what every football player tries to do.” — Brandon Myers
