Lost in the Ravens’ 9-6 win over the Chiefs Sunday afternoon was the defense getting pushed around defending against the run. Kansas City’s Jamaal Charles racked up 140 yards against the Ravens’ defense, something that hasn’t happened in a long time. So what was the problem Sunday? For starters, Haloti Ngata, Pernell McPhee and inside linebacker Ray Lewis were getting blocked all game. Lewis, in particular, struggled to get to Charles or any of the other Chiefs’ backs. In the offseason, Lewis chose to lose some weight because the league has become a passing league. However, that weight loss seems to have cost Lewis defending the run. Lewis is still a dominant defender, ending up with 10 tackles, but for most of the first half, if not the whole game, he was getting blown off the ball by the Chiefs’ offensive line.
