Week 7 opened beautifully for the San Diego Chargers. Donald Butler ran in his first career touchdown within the first few minutes of the game. A second quickly followed. Antonio Gates was back in his Tight End position. Philip Rivers was looking good. Mike Tolbert and Ryan Mathews looked strong and determined. The boys in blue quickly got a leg up on the New York Jets. Then, disaster struck. The whole team fell apart in the second half. Why? What happened? While you could go on and on about Rivers’ passer rating, making only 8 of 20 attempts in the second half, or the defense’s penalties, costing them 93 yards. Where does the buck stop? The buck stops at Head Coach Norv Turner. Bad play calling, issues with offense, defense, special teams have haunted this franchise since he took over in 2007. Since then, the Chargers have had highs and lows, but no consistency. What it really comes down to is the play calling. The plays are so predictable, a five year old watching could know the pattern of plays: first down, run; second down, run; third down, long pass to make the first.
