The newest edition to the New York Giants running back Peyton Hillis has emerged to lead the Giants to their first win. (1-6)  But is he just a band aid for the team? Hillis was cut by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers earlier this season but was later picked up by the Giants and has shown a good first start playing with the team.  When the Giants finally broke away from their six game losing streak against the Minnesota Vikings winning 23-7, Hillis did lead the team to their first victory.  Hillis was able to rush the ball 18 times and made five catches in his season debut. Yet, the Giants seem a little wary of Hillis as this has been the most times he’s touch the ball since Christmas Eve in 2011.  They cannot risk having Hillis get injured but they have no other choice.  Once Brandon Jacobs, who rushed 22 times for 106 yards playing against Chicago pulled a hamstring, the Giants needed someone who didn’t seem like they were beginning to get rusty.  Jacobs body is definitely wearing down and he is listed as doubtful for Week eight. The fear of overusing the running back can be dangerous.  But they are going to have to use him as long as they can as Hillis and rookie Micheal Cox are their only healthy running backs. Hillis will likely play when the team goes against the Philadelphia Eagles Week eight.  Coming fresh out of his home in Tennessee coaching a local high school, to getting signed by the Giants last week, to starting last Monday night; Hillis has had a busy few weeks. Yet, it’s still not sure how well he’ll play against other teams.  The Minnesota Vikings are one of the worst teams in the league.  Hillis has been a free agent during the middle of the season and hasn’t done much since 2011.  So we’ll just have to keep watching. Maybe Hillis is just there as a band aid, aiding a team who has seen plenty of mistakes and six losses thus far; after all you can’t put a band aid on a big wound.
