There might not be that many measurable stats for a 3 – 4 defensive lineman but it is this writer’s opinion that the defensive line is quite possibly the most important unit of a 3 – 4 scheme. There aren’t a shower of accolades like in the wake of sacks and the position itself is downright brutal, having to many times absorb a pounding double-team from angry 300lb O-Line hogs, but if there is not legitimate disruption up front the remaining 7 will struggle, and often fail, to accomplish their jobs. In their respective primes Aaron Smith, Kimo Von Oelhoffen, Brett Keisel, and Casey Hampton were consistent anchors and heavy disruptors for the Pittsburgh Steelers defensive front. They executed their assignments, caused havoc, and helped the Steelers defense stay in the top five of the league year in and year out.  Brett Keisel stepped in after Kimo Von Oelhoffen went to the Jets after the Steelers celebrated One for the Thumb. It was a seamless transition. He is now not only t...

ANY/A Passing Stat As It Relates To Ben Roethlisberger & Steelers History

Over the years several people have tried to develop a stat that best measures how good a quarterback is. The passer rating is still used today, but since its development we have moved on to yards per pass attempt, net yards per pass attempt and adjusted net yards per pass attempt. If you read Pro Football Reference regularly, you probably know by now that net yards per pass attempt...

Brown's brother, Desmond Brown, who is currently a running back at the University of Pittsburgh, appears to have leaked the video early on Youtube and in it you will see Antonio...

The Most Important Steeler This Year Is…

The Pittsburgh Steelers enter the 2013 NFL season with question marks like every other team in the league. This is what we’ve come to expect in the free agency era of pro football. With teams restricted by the salary cap and limited amounts of contact in practice, the days of seeing a team without concerns at certain positions are long gone. It would be very easy for me to say...

Video: super agent Drew Rosenhaus wrestles a 6-foot shark

He’s fought numerous times with GMs and team owners, and now he’s foolishly taking on a 6-foot shark. Seems like a logical progression. While fishing on his boat, Drew snagged this with his rod, then hopped into the water and grabbed the beast by it’s tail. Of course, one of his crewmen  whipped out the iPhone to capture the event, because why the hell would you wrestle a...

Jarvis Jones believes that playing in a 3-4 defense at Georgia will help him transition to Steelers defense

The Steelers selected Jarvis Jones 17th overall in the 2013 NFL Draft. Jones played in a 3-4 scheme while in college at Georgia. “Georgia’s 3-4 system under Coach Grantham was very helpful for me and my pro career at Pittsburgh, said Jones via georgiadogs.com. There may be more to do here and it may be more complex, but what I learned at Georgia has given me an advantage with...

Steelers FB Will Johnson Strives To Be As Athletic As 49ers TE Vernon Davis

The latest video on steelers.com features a day in the life of Pittsburgh Steelers fullback Will Johnson and in it, the undrafted player out of West Virginia talks about how he is always striving to be as good athletically as San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis. "I figured I would write everyone's names - I would take a great player and past people from combines...

Steelers’ Antonio Brown runs on a treadmill (Video)

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown decided to follow is Chad Johnson’s footsteps and run on a treadmill. It doesn’t look like Brown ran at 24 MPH like Johnson since the video doesn’t tell us how fast he was going.  My guess is he was running at about 15 MPH.     Need NFL Tickets? The post Steelers’ Antonio Brown runs on a treadmill (Video) appeared first...

Recently, the Sporting News announced their top twenty candidates for the 2013 NFL Rookie of the Year Award and topping their list is Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell. Fourth on their list is outside linebacker Jarvis Jones, the Steelers first-round draft pick out of Georgia. The Terrible Podcast – Talking Cruz Versus Brown Contract, Jarvis Jones, Markus Wheaton & More Episode

Season 3, Episode 117 of The Terrible Podcast is up and co-host David Todd and I start of by talking about the new contract signed Monday by New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz as it relates to the one that Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown signed last year in training camp. That discussion leads to us talking more about young receivers such as Cruz that are probably...

Somebody Has To Fill Harrison’s Shoes At Right Outside Linebacker For The Steelers

By Matthew Marczi Even though he may not have been given the biggest contract out of those who left the Pittsburgh Steelers this year via free agency, James Harrison was certainly the greatest. Mike Wallace may have gotten $60 million from the Miami Dolphins—and that is fair market value for his services at his age in today’s NFL—it is unlikely that he will ever be as great...
