In what came as a bit of a shock on Monday, Super Bowl XLVII MVP Jacoby Jones failed his conditioning test to open training camp with the Baltimore Ravens. He was subsequently placed on the active/NFI list to start camp. Jones missed all of the team’s offseason conditioning workouts because he was a contestant on Dancing with the Stars. The fact that a wide receiver failed a conditioning test is a huge shock as that almost never happens. Jones is penciled in as Baltimore’s No. 2 receiver across from Torrey Smith. After trading Anquan Boldin to the San Francisco 49ers this offseason, the Ravens were hoping Jones would step up and be a reliable No. 2 target. This is an awful start to that project. Last season Jones had 30 receptions for 406 yards and a touchdown. He also returned two kickoffs and one punt for a touchdown. In Baltimore’s Super Bowl XLVII win over the San Francisco 49ers, Jones had one reception for a 56-yard touchdown and also had a 108-yard kickoff return for a score. The Ravens may look to add another receiver in light of this news. Plenty of free agent wideouts are still available. Guys like Austin Collie, Brandon Lloyd, Laurent Robinson, Randy Moss and Braylon Edwards are all still looking for work. Jones will have a chance to pass the conditioning test a second time on Tuesday.
