Kansas City running back Jamaal Charles believes his role will evolve in the Chiefs’ offense next season. With Andy Reid at the helm, Charles thinks he will be much more involved in the passing game. “I know my role in my mind will be doing lots of stuff with the offense,” Charles said. “I’m like (Brian) Westbrook and (LeSean) McCoy as far as how I fit into (Reid’s) offense. “I definitely need to do more studying and knowing the scheme of the defense, especially playing a position like wide receiver. I have to go in there and try to read the defense. Last year, I didn’t have any catches out of the backfield. I feel like this year it will be more.” Charles in his career with the Chiefs runs just better than a 5:1 ratio for rushes to receptions. He was a big weapon in the air already, so his career-high of 45 receptions from the 2010 season would be the high water mark. For what it’s worth, Kansas City did win the AFC West that season with a record of 10-6 under Charlie Weis‘ offense.
