Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen has spent a portion of his off-season attending Professional Bull Riding events. Allen, who owns three bulls named Hot Iron, HY Test and Thumbs Up, has teamed up with the PBR to promote his Homes for Wounded Warriors foundation.
Allen’s foundation helps to build and remodel homes for veterans returning from Afghanistan and Iraq.
Despite owning three bulls, Allen says due to his contract, he has to resist riding the bulls.
“They just tempt me every time I’m at a ride,” Allen told the Associated Press. “I’m like, ‘I got this.’ And I know I don’t.”
Allen, who grew up on a farm, added that when he was younger his father would let him ride cows.
“My dad and grandpa thought it was really funny to put us on,” he said. “The cows always won.”
While Allen may not be able to ride the bulls, he has found a unique way to support our veterans. Plus, when his NFL career is over, maybe he can become a professional bull rider.
