After center Jeff Staturday agreed to a deal with the Packers, he owed it to Peyton Manning to call him and deliver the news according to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "Peyton is a close friend and I loved playing with him," Saturday said. "I loved the time we spent together. It was the most difficult call I've ever made. I told him before anyone else that I was going to Green Bay. I told him I don't think the Broncos wanted me as much as he did. They've got things going on that they're happy with and are moving forward with and I didn't think it was an exact fit. I always felt like in Green Bay I was their very first choice. They have a great offensive line and some really good, young players. They won 15 games last year; it's not like I have to add a lot to it. But I think I can offer leadership, and being a veteran I can help the offensive line blossom into players they want to be."

I’ve wanted to write something on this all week but haven’t gotten around to it. Luckily for you, I’m still going to talk about it. If you’re already sick of hearing about it, then feel free to move on. If you’re not already aware, there was a report from Sam Farmer of the LA Times this week with some interesting tidbits on Andy Reid. Here’s what the article said: Two...

Can Manning catch Favre, Marino?

Obviously Peyton Manning felt he had unfinished business. Among the items on his to-do list are some records currently held by Brett Favre and Dan Marino. Weller Ross takes a look at those records and finds that Manning may find himself at the top of the charts sooner rather than later: So similarly to completions, Peyton should catch Marino this year, and despite being 109 behind...

Titans get Wimbley to play defensive end

For a team that went all in on Peyton Manning, largely at the behest of owner Bud Adams, and lost, the Tennessee Titans recovered pretty nicely. The Titans' biggest need in free agency was not at the quarterback position, though snagging an elite player like Manning at the position was something that could not have been turned away. Instead, the Titans filled the biggest gap...

Saturday signed Friday to play Sunday with Packers

I can't really take credit for that headline concept (darn it!). That was more or less an ESPN line. Something to the effect that "Jeff Saturday signed Friday to play Sunday." Well done, es-pen, well done indeed.Anyway, the point of all the above is that veteran, venerable, free agent center Jeff Saturday was signed by the Green Bay Packers yesterday. He will replace...

Peyton Manning a Bronco, Tim Tebow a Jet and Mario Williams a Bill? What a crazy start to free agency.

Tim Tebow Jockey Billboard

Tim Tebow hasn’t been a New York Jet for longer than a week, yet the backup quarterback is already featured on a billboard over the Lincoln Tunnel in New Jersey. The Denver Broncos to the Super Bowl? A Dose of Reality

"Team spirit" is infectious. We love it. That is one of the reasons we enjoy football so much. There are few things more enjoyable than watching a calm, mild-mannered individual reduced to a quivering pile of fury at what he perceives to be a blown call. Or consider the chills that run down the spine when a group of complete strangers sees that unexpected turnover and...

Dawkins remains undecided about future

Not even the allure of playing with new Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning has swayed Brian Dawkins about whether to continue his illustrious 16-year NFL career. "My decision will be based upon me making the right decision for me going forward - period," the nine-time Pro Bowl safety told me and co-host Jim Miller on Sirius XM NFL Radio. "That's a decision...

Tebow Jockey Billboard Goes Up Outside Lincoln Tunnel In N.J.

If you work for a company like Clear Channel that sells billboard space, you have to be pretty happy when something Tim-Tebow-related happens. Last season, there was the billboard in Denver calling for Broncos coach John Fox to bench starting quarterback Kyle Orton in favor of Tebow. Ultimately, that happened. Then, when the Broncos began pursing Peyton Manning, another billboard...

The Broncos reportedly were looking to move Tim Tebow before they even knew they were going to get Peyton Manning. In an article about Jacksonville’s failed attempt to acquire Tebow from the Broncos via trade, Tania Ganguli of The Florida Times-Union says Denver began quietly shopping the religious quarterback at the scouting combine in February. The combine ran from February...

Same Faces-New Places

I'm kind of a big deal T... Not So Free Agents Quarterbacks Peyton Manning The Holy Grail of Free Agents was landed by John Elway and the Broncos.  What does this mean for fantasy?  Lots of things.  Let’s start with Manning himself.  Peyton was as good as it gets from a fantasy perspective for over a decade.  4,000 yards and 28 TDs was in the bag every single year...
