GREEN BAY, Wis. After only one hour and 45 minutes, the Green Bay Packers concluded their shortest training camp practice of the season Monday night. With injuries and concussions beginning to pile up, coach Mike McCarthy wanted to make sure that he'd have as many healthy players as possible in three days when the Packers travel to face the San Diego Chargers for their preseason opener. After practice, McCarthy already had to rule out eight players from that upcoming game, including wide receiver Greg Jennings, who has missed the past two days with a concussion. Tight end Ryan Taylor will also miss the game with a concussion that he suffered in Sunday night's practice. Taylor's concussion is the fourth one suffered by a Green Bay player so far in training camp. The other six Packers who won't be healthy in time for San Diego are wide receiver Tori Gurley (groin), running back Du'ane Bennett (knee), fullback Jon Hoese (hamstring), offensive linemen Ray Dominguez (ankle) and Mike McCabe (hip) and tight end Eric Lair (knee). Two more injuries happened during Monday's practice, including one to cornerback Sam Shields that had him down on one knee on the field for several minutes. McCarthy described it as an elbow injury. Also, running back Brandon Saine left practice with a hamstring injury. Starting left tackle Marshall Newhouse did not practice Monday, but he is further along in his recovery from a concussion than Jennings is, despite both players suffering concussions during Friday night's family night scrimmage. Newhouse could possibly be cleared in time to start against the Chargers. Follow Paul Imig on Twitter.
