On Tuesday the Detroit Lions agreed to acquire running back Ronnie Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for fellow running back Jerome Harrison and a seventh-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. What seemed like a solid move for all parties involved has now collapsed, as Harrison failed his physical with the Eagles.

The Eagles reported on their official team website on Wednesday that the trade was voided. Lions vice president Bill Keenist also confirmed that the trade was off, even though Detroit had never officially announced the deal.

Brown arrived in Detroit on Wednesday afternoon all prepared to start working with the team, and had even expressed happiness at the new opportunity. Lions head coach Jim Schwartz even discussed his new running back on Wednesday, discussing his size and how he would provide a different dimension to the team’s offense. Now Brown will be headed back to Philadelphia and Harrison will be returned to Detroit.

The Lions have issues at running back, as starter Jahvid Best is expected to miss time after suffering his second concussion in the past few months. Maurice Morris and Keiland Williams are currently the only healthy running backs on the Lions’ 53-man roster right now, and Harrison is on his way back but as we’ve seen he may not be fully healthy.

We’ll see how Detroit handles this going forward now.
