The Minnesota Vikings will be adding another weapon to their receiving corps this Sunday as they face off against the Detroit Lions.  Jerome Simpson, who just finished serving his three game suspension, will rejoin the team and add another dimension to an already fine tuned offense.

Simpson is the type of vertical threat that the Vikings have been missing and will make for a great target for Christian Ponder.  The Vikings signed Simpson on April 24 of this year with the intention of making him a solid primary target for Ponder.  Whatever Simpson brings to the table will be better than what the other receivers not named Percy Harvin have been bringing.

Simpson really broke out last year as he had career highs in yards (725), catches (50), and touchdowns (4).  The one thing that everyone remembers about Simpson is him flipping over a defender and landing in the end zone for a touchdown.  While it would be exhilarating to watch him do that again, Vikings' fans will just be content with him catching some deep balls from Ponder and cause defenses to pay extra attention to a possibility of a deep ball.

Simpson did get some playing time during the preseason as his suspension did not begin until the regular season.  The highlight of his preseason was when he caught a slant route from Ponder that he ran for 33 yards.  During this run, he hurdled a defender before being tackled further down the field.  This is the kind of explosiveness that the Vikings are going to need out of Simpson.

So how will he do?  There is no doubt that he will be rusty, but he will be going against a weak Lions' secondary.  There are only four teams that have allowed a higher quarterback completion percentage than the Lions, so that bodes well for Simpson and the Vikings.  Only time will tell how Simpson will play, but expect him to make an impact on the game, whether he has a good game statistically or not.
