Steelers Free Agent Wide Receiver Jerricho Cotchery has a meeting scheduled with the Kansas City Chiefs.  The meeting will hold place over Monday and Tuesday of next week.  The Chiefs have been big players in free agency this year.  They have been upgrading their offense in all aspects.  They brought in Free Agent Tackle Eric Winston to sure up the offensive line.  They also added Kevin Boss at tight end and Peyton Hillis at running back.  They have also added Brady Quinn to back up Matt Cassell.

The addition of Cotchery would just add another piece to the Chiefs puzzle.  The Chiefs would also have Cotchery fighting for the third or even fourth wide receiver spot.  Dwayne Bowe is the number one receiver.  It will be between Jonathan Baldwin, Steve Breaston and Cotchery to fill the rest of the spots.

A big piece to this signing is the Chiefs have Brian Daboll on their staff.  Daboll was a Quarterbacks Coach for the Jets during two of Cothery’s seasons in New York.  Daboll knows what Cotchery can do and is looking to add him to the mix.  It would be a good signing for the Chiefs.  The Chiefs look to be really interested in upgrading on offense.

The Jets have also been rumored to be in the mix.  The Steelers have some competition on their hands if they plan to keep Cotchery.  The Steelers do not have a veteran presence in their wide receiving group right now.  All of the players on the roster right now have played 3 years or less.  A veteran leader is something the Steelers would like to have in this group of guys.  All three have or are about to break out and they may need a cool head to keep them grounded.  Cotchery is that guy.

Of the Steelers free agents Cotchery is the one the Steelers could use the most.  He is the most valuable to this team.  He can fill in for any of the other receivers if injured and he made plays when he got a chance.  Ben Roethlisberger has also made a pitch to keep Cotchery with the Steelers.

With all of the receivers that have come off the board in free agency Cotchery is getting close to the top of the list in talent left.  If the Steelers want to keep him they may have to get moving on resigning him.  He won’t last long with the talent that is left on the market.
