And the truth will set you free. Or cause more problems.

Dallas Cowboys’ owner, Jerry Jones, shocked everyone when he revealed he was yet to be in touch with Dez Bryant following a family assault incident two weeks ago.  When Jones was asked about the reasoning behind not speaking with Bryant at the team’s press conference to commence training camp, Jones claimed he “didn’t know why.” Lies.

Jones, while appearing on CBS Radio this morning, brought a new perspective to why he stayed away from Bryant.

“I’m so pissed that I’m not ready to talk to him,” Jones declared.

That is the last thing Bryant needs to hear now.  Fear is not a constructive long-term motivator. Fear is a temporary destructive motivator.  Jones owns the right to be “pissed.” However, Jones’ time to speak with or about Bryant was immediately after the incident. As soon as training camp opened, it was time to move on.

Just when it looked like Jones knew when to keep his mouth shut, he takes a shot publicly at a personally struggling Bryant.  Between the lines, Bryant is reportedly making spectacular plays at the Cowboys’ training camp in Oxnard, California.

Bryant is at home on the field and will likely be a star receiver in this league if he can tune-up aspects of his game.  Bryant is a notoriously poor route-runner and lost the trust of quarterback, Tony Romo, last season for running sloppy routes and causing interceptions. Bryant desperately needs to be solely focused on perfecting his route-running and let his physical abilitites take over later.

All reports through the off-season, prior to the assault incident, suggest a more focused Bryant.  Hopefully, Bryant doesn’t hear the news about his furious owner.

Bryant has yet to speak with the media himself. Sadly for Bryant, he will be answering a barrage of questions unrelated to his performance on the field when he finally opens his mouth.

Jones should learn to keep his “glory-hole days” mouth shut, even if he is good for a laugh every now and then.

He is back to causing the typical off-the-field problems that will undoubtedly distract the Cowboys this season.
