The most interesting tidbit to come out of Saturday's Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium between Rutgers and Notre Dame didn't happen on the field. At halftime of the game, ESPN analyst Jesse Palmer needed to give the Heimlich maneuver to colleague Chris Fowler. We'll let Fowler take it from here. Never before needed a Heimlich at halftime. (Or any time)! thanks Jesse Palmer! He saved me from death by dry chicken sandwich. Really. — Chris Fowler (@cbfowler) December 28, 2013 Not bad to have quick thinking, ex-NFL player around when Heimlich needed. I'll take bruised ribs to avoid choking! — Chris Fowler (@cbfowler) December 28, 2013 This is one of the more bizarre stories we've heard all year, and thankfully, Fowler is OK. Here's Palmer's tale of how the events unfolded. “I was watching Chris chew his food, and his eyes began to get big,” said the former Florida Gator, Palmer, who had never performed the Heimlich before. “He tried to swallow some water to clear his throat, then he had a look of panic on his face.” Luckily for Fowler, the Pinstripe Bowl was the one game he was calling this bowl season. Palmer still has one assignment left - Tuesday's Chik-fil-A Bowl between Duke and Texas A&M. I guess that's a good thing for Rece Davis, David Pollack, and Samantha Ponder in case any of them run across a dry chicken sandwich or rogue waffle fry during the game. [ESPN Front Row]
