A source close tot he team told The New York Post late Saturday that Coples had suffered a hairline fracture in the ankle and would miss 3-4 weeks, which would be the start of the regular season. According to the Jets’ official statement,  they confirmed Coples will undergo a “medical procedure” Monday. It is unclear if that means surgery, which would make his timetable to return longer than 3-4 weeks. An MRI exam could have revealed further damage tot he ankle than previously thought. Coples got injured on a play in the second quarter while he was chasing down Jaguars quarterback Chad Henne. It looked like his ankle twisted awkwardly in the turf as he was chasing a ball he thought Henne had fumbled. However, the refs ruled it was an incomplete pass. It gives other players, such as Antwan Barnes, Ricky Sapp and Garrett McIntyre a chance to step up and solidify a spot on the roster. It’s been a tough camp for the Jets regarding injury (QB Geno Smith) and some in-house drama. We here at New York Sports-Kings will keep an eye and an ear open for any stories, breaking or otherwise, around the New York area.
