Jets linebacker Bryan Thomas, who was accused of assaulting his wife and possessing drug paraphernalia, was admitted today into a probation program that will allow the charges to be dismissed if he completes it successfully.
Judge Stuart Minkowitz admitted Thomas into the states Pretrial Intervention program, following an agreement between the Morris County Prosecutors Office and Thomas attorney, Joseph Tacopina.
Thomas, 33, of Randolph, was arrested by township police on a charge of aggravated assault on Oct. 31 after an incident when he allegedly pushed his wife with a kitchen chair, punched her in the stomach and grabbed her by the neck.
He was also charged with possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia after police allegedly found a hookah, rolling papers and a small glass vial commonly used to smoke marijuana. A charge of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, the painkiller hydrocodone, was also lodged, but Tacopina said he had a prescription for those 20 tablets.
