Jets Not Going After Michael Vick; Going For Tarvaris Jackson Instead?

On Saturday, we reported that the New York Jets had hired Marty Mornhinweg to be their new offensive coordinator. With that hire came the immediate reports that the former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator might try to bring quarterback Michael Vick with him. That rumor can probably be put to bed pretty early now. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Vick and Mornhinweg did not really get along and that they wouldn’t want to work together again in 2013. With Jets being tied to the hip with Mark Sanchez because of his $8.25 million in guaranteed salary, reports are that the team is trying to acquire Matt Flynn from the Seattle Seahawks or Alex Smith from the San Francisco 49ers. However, reports say it is unlikely that a possible for trade for any of these two will happen. Reports are that the Jets do want someone to compete with Sanchez, and a name that continues to pop up is Tarvaris Jackson. Jackson made an impression on new general manager John Idzik during his time in Seattle. Other names that have come up to the Jets’ interests are Matt Moore, Jason Campbell and David Garrard.
