Even after 21 years with the Detroit Lions, Jason Hanson is showing no signs of slowing down.
The 42-year-old kicker is coming off one of the best seasons of his career, converting 32 of 36 field goal attempts, including a 53-yarder, his longest make in four years.
Hanson also completed the final season of his four-year contract. He told reporters last week he wouldn't make a decision on continuing his career until the Lions confirmed they were interesting in bringing him back.
"If they're done with me, then we're done, I don't have a decision," Hanson said. I they're like 'We'd like you to come back,' then I'll have a decision to make and we'll talk about that later."
On Monday, Jim Schwartz was asked if Hanson had another year left in the tank and the Lions coach made it sound as if the team would like to have the veteran back in 2013.
"He had a good year this year," Schwartz said. "He had more attempts this year than last year, so his accuracy still hasn't declined. He just set another NFL record yesterday. I think that he has been the definition of consistent, so I wouldn't see any reason that that would change. There hasn't been signs that it's in decline."

What 4-12 means for the Detroit Lions
First and foremost, it means that the Detroit Lions own the fifth pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.
Unfortunately, it also means that Detroit has taken a monstrous step backward in 2012. A year removed from a 10-6 season that ended in the playoffs, the Lions now find themselves drafting in an all-to-familiar position.
How did 4-12 happen? Who is to blame for the 2012 season? How...

Lions player: Team was undisciplined, Jim Schwartz lost control
The Detroit Lions looked like the Lions of old this past season, and that is not a good thing. When it comes to the Lions’ woes, blame the Ford Family but blame them for the right reasons
As the Lions finished off an extremely disappointing season following a year in which the team went to the playoffs, plenty of blame is to go around and rightly so.
Everyone from head coach Jim Schwartz to general manager Martin Mayhew deserves some share of the blame and obviously it’s going to be debated as to who exactly gets more of it.
In addition to the blame game, a common...

Saved by the Buzzer: Mike McCarthy pulls a Jim Schwartz as Jordy Nelson tries to hide the evidence (VIDEO)
So apparently Lions head coach Jim Schwartz isn’t the only NFL coach that doesn’t know the rules of throwing the challenge flag and Jordy Nelson might be the smartest guy on the Packer sideline (coaches included). During the 4th quarter of Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings, Packers head coach Mike McCarthy threw a challenge [...]
NFL Cougar Highlights: Week 17
IT WAS ANOTHER disappointing season for the Detroit Lions. Holding a .500 record at the midway point of the season, the Lions dropped their final eight games, including a 26-24 fall to Chicago, Sunday. But that didn’t stop kicker Jason Hanson from setting the franchise single-season scoring record.

Jordy Nelson’s Unsuccessful Challenge Flag Subterfuge
Mike McCarthy very nearly Jim Schwartz’d himself by throwing a red flag to challenge a fumble. That could have been a catastrophe had McCarthy not thrown it after the officials had already decided to review it, given the inane rule the NFL has about coaches throwing a red flag before an automatic review. Nevertheless, the Packers were penalized 15 yards for the challenge flag toss...
