CHARLOTTE, NC - SEPTEMBER 19: Jimmy Clausen of the Carolina Panthers warms up before their game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Bank of America Stadium on September 19, 2010 in Charlotte, North Carolina. (Photo by Streeter Lecka/Getty Images)
Poor Jimmy Clausen. The Panthers’ third-string quarterback received a t-shirt that he thought was hilarious in the mail, tweeted a picture of his gift and got a rounding applause from his Notre Dame followers. Then Alabama fans caught wind of it and didn’t like it so much. That’s because Clausen’s new shirt read “Catholics vs. Cousins.” Which is funny, you know, because in Alabama, cousins date each other — not. Clausen swiftly took the tweet down and backpedaled faster than he ever has in his playing days by sending out some defensive tweets and retweets before posting a genuine apology — oh, and he also had some lunch during the controversy. Some people have to much time on your hands! It's a shirt people lol— Jimmy Clausen (@JimmyClausen) December 17, 2012 Well tweeps have a great Monday! Off to lunch— Jimmy Clausen (@JimmyClausen) December 17, 2012 wow people are kind of pathetic and have nothing better to do then get butthurt over @JimmyClausen's shirt that was sent to him. Get a life!— Nicholas Ayers (@NicholasAyers) December 17, 2012 The shirt was sent to me! I was saying THANK YOU #calmdownpeople— Jimmy Clausen (@JimmyClausen) December 17, 2012 I'm sorry if I offended anyone by posting that shirt, I didn't mean anything by it at all...Looking forward to a great game in Miami!— Jimmy Clausen (@JimmyClausen) December 17, 2012 Clausen’s initial tweet read: #GOIRISH with a picture of the below t-shirt.
