The Indianapolis Colts on Monday hired Jimmy Raye as the team's new vice president of football operations. Raye, who had spent the last 17 years with the San Diego Chargers, most recently as the team's director of player personnel, will oversee the Colts' pro and college scouting and also will be involved in player personnel operations. "We’re excited to be adding someone as high caliber as Jimmy Raye to the Colts organization” said Colts General Manager Ryan Grigson. “He has a strong football pedigree, is highly intelligent, and is a top notch evaluator along with being a great human being. I am looking forward to rolling up my sleeves with him this offseason as we hit the ground running into free agency, the draft, and beyond.” Raye joined the Chargers in 1996, spending four seasons as a scout. He was promoted to college scouting directon in 2000, a post he held through 2007. He was then elevated to player personnel director at that time and remained in that post until assuming the Colts' job. Prior to the Chargers, Raye spent one season with the Kansas City Chiefs in 1996 and the Amsterdam Admirals of the World League in 1995. Raye's father, Jimmy Raye II, is currently an assistant coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In an ironic twist, Raye was passed over for the Chargers' general manager job that subsequently went to former Colts vice president of football operations, Tom Telesco, who was hired late last week. Now, Raye takes Telesco's old job.
