Browns CEO Joe Banner said Saturday that the jury is still out on whether using this year's second-round pick on receiver Josh Gordon in the 2012 supplemental draft was the right move.
"I think Josh has to keep working hard and improving," Banner said. "I'd be surprised if Josh didn't say there were things he was doing well and things he could be doing better.
"A top-of-the-second-round pick on a wide receiver, you would hope by the second or third year you'd have a big, big impact player."
Gordon, who was kicked out of Baylor and sat out of football at Utah in 2011, caught 50 passes for a team-high 805 yards and five TDs last season.
"I think he still has improvements [he] could make and there's hope that he can do that," said Banner at the NFL Scouting Combine. "He's still got to grow and work hard in order to answer that question."
New Browns Vice President of Player Personnel Mike Lombardi criticized the pick while serving as a TV analyst when the Browns made it last summer. So, when Lombardi was hired by the team recently, Gordon tweeted, "Uh-oh, am I in trouble?"
Lombardi responded by saying, "Trust me, he has nothing to worry about."
