Joe Namath has tried to be nice to the Jets. But like an ex-girlfriend who just never seems to get over a mutual breakup, he just can’t pull it off. Namath has flip-flopped on his stance regarding the Jets so many times over the past year that it would be fair to wonder if he’s starting to get senile. During an interview with Adam Schein on SiriusXM NFL Radio Wednesday, he was back to ripping his former team.

“I’m concerned with how the Jets are trying to build a team and win a championship,” Namath said according to Schein’s Twitter account. “They seem more interested in the headlines.”

That stance is consistent with the way Namath reacted after the Jets traded for Tim Tebow, calling it a “tremendous distraction” that the team would regret. This is also the same Broadway Joe who recently had nothing but good things to say about Mark Sanchez, but now he is questioning whether or not New York’s offense can succeed.

“The only reason to run the wild cat is if your offense isn’t working,” Namath said.

I think it’s pretty obvious that the Jets offense wasn’t working last season, as evidenced by the signing of Tony Sparano and the Tebow trade. Obviously they are looking to shake it up, and Namath is not alone in thinking the Jets will struggle. Broadway Joe also went on to say that he thinks the defense is good enough for New York to win nine or 10 games, so that must have been the Namath that feels horrible about his relationship with the team talking.

There’s plenty of truth to everything Namath said. Jets fans are just tired of hearing it from him.
