Good and bad news for the Broncos. Offensive coordinator Mike McCoy did not get the head coaching job with Miami Dolphins. Instead it went to Green Bay Packer offensive coordinator Joe Philbin, according to NFL sources.

Philbin thus experienced the ultimate life low and career high within a week’s time. Philbin’s son Michael was found drowned in a Wisconsin River last week. The Packers, who were 15-1 during the regular season, were then upset by the New York Giants in an NFC second-round playoff game Sunday.

And now Philbin gets his first NFL head coaching gig with the Dolphins. You can’t help but be happy for Philbin. Still, you have to feel for McCoy, who was considered the frontrunner for the job and interviewed 16 hours with the Dolphins the past two days.

However, this gives continuity for the Broncos’ offensive coaching staff as it continues to bring along quarterback Tim Tebow. McCoy has been the Broncos’ offensive coordinator since 2009 and started calling plays after head coach Josh McDaniels was fired with three games remaining in the 2010 season.
