If the rumors are true that Jon Gruden wants back in Oakland, perhaps he’s crazier than we thought.
You would be hard pressed to find a worse situation for the former Raiders and Buccaneers head coach to make his comeback.
Surely Gruden has fond memories of his four years in Oakland. And he certainly has the fans’ support, but despite the death of Al Davis, the Raiders are still among the worst run teams in the NFL, and there are few teams with a bleaker future.
Oakland has a serious lack of elite young talent, and that’s not going to change anytime soon. The team wasted a first-round pick on Rolando McClain in 2010, and haven’t had a first-round selection since. They traded the 2011 pick to the New England Patriots for Richard Seymour, and they traded the 2012 first-round pick to the Cincinnati Bengals for Carson Palmer. They’ll finally have a first rounder in 2013, but they’ll be without a second-round selection (Palmer) and a fifth-round pick (traded for Aaron Curry).
The team ha...

The Oakland Raiders on Wednesday publicly dismissed a report that former Raiders coach and current ESPN analyst Jon Gruden was being discussed as a possible replacement for first-year head coach Dennis Allen.
"There are two people on this planet that have the ability to make talks happen between Jon Gruden and the Raiders, with regard to him allegedly taking over the football...
RETURN OF CHUCKY
Rumor has it that NFL analyst Jon Gruden and the Raiders have been in talks to bring the team's onetime head coach back into the fold in Oakland.
The Oakland Raiders are pretty furious about the rumor that they were trying to bring back Jon Gruden as their head coach for next season.
The Raiders ended up releasing a statement so they could voice their frustrations.
An e-mail from Raiders director media relations Zak Gilbert on the “rumor” that Jon Gruden could be rejoining the Raiders . . .
Members of the media: There...
‘This ***** Gruden look like he on cocaine’. We didn’t really notice that side of Gruden last night. What we did notice was his unhealthy obsession with anything and everything that RGIII did. Two yard run? Game changing. Fumble? RGIII’s magic.
It was getting bad. Twitter user @Steve_Foley3 noticed too: ‘The dude fumbles and his teammate scores the touchdown Gruden says...
Former NFL coach Jon Gruden is in talks to return to the Oakland Raiders, Pro Football Weekly reported on Tuesday. The report comes a day after the current coach, Dennis Allen, left the team to attend the funeral of his father who died Monday. Early in November, Raiders owner Mark Davis voiced his frustration with the team, which is 3-9 after losing five in a row. In the past...

Okay, for just a moment imagine that Jon Gruden rejoining the Raiders isn't the worst idea for both sides of the discussion. Pretend that the small market Raiders wouldn't have to eat the contracts of Reggie McKenzie and Head Coach Dennis Allen. Pretend that Gruden didn't botch the only job in which he was in [...]
This week's Straight Outta Stockton focuses on ESPN's Monday Night Football analyst Jon Gruden. We may have Gruden for a limited time, so we need to all enjoy his intense, zany antics while we can. Outside of Dick VItale, I don't know if we've ever seen an analyst as enthusiastic about his sport and every player who takes part. But the funny thing about Gruden...
Maybe the term "settles" is a little harsh but when your other candidates were Jon Gruden, Mike Gundy and Charlie Strong, it fits. By settling, it doesn't necessarily mean that this is a bad hire. In fact, I like this hire more than the last two that the Vols have made. Of course, the last two hires were Lane Kiffin and Derek Dooley so I'm not sure that's saying...
The saga to find the replacement for Derek Dooley continues as Tennessee is now reportedly setting their lowered expectations on Cincinnati head football coach Butch Jones to be the Vols' new HC. This after Jon Gruden, Mike Gundy, and Charlie Strong turned the school down.
Jones has already been headhunted by both Purdue and Colorado, with no success. It seems there might...
It’s almost a weekend off for Patriots fans, with New England taking on the Houston Texans on Monday night, it’s a weekend to score points with your significant other by offering to do something on Sunday afternoon.
Unless you have the Red Zone channel, that is.
