Jordan Rodgers swears he's not a run-first quarterback and his reputation upon arriving in Nashville was as a pocket passer in the mold of older brother Aaron, the quarterback of the defending Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers. But Jordan Rodgers' stats the last two games tell a different story. While he's completed just 14-of-46 passes for 233 yards and three interceptions, he's rushed for 176 yards on 29 attempts, helping the offensive line avoid sacks with his quickness. As the Commodores prepare for a Southeastern Conference home game Saturday with Arkansas, Rodgers is hoping to make more plays with his arm and fewer with his feet. "I think it is a great aspect of my team that I can help it (by running) when I need to," he said. "There's a couple of situations on film that I would like to stay in the pocket a half-second longer and deliver the ball. I definitely want to be a pass-first quarterback. That's what this offense needs, I think." What the offense also has needed for years are points and Rodgers has helped provide that the last two games, even if the method is one he'd prefer not to use. After scoring 28 points in a narrow loss to Georgia, Vanderbilt exploded for 44 points and 530 total yards last week in a whipping of Army. A similar performance against Arkansas would open some eyes and perhaps move the Commodores one big step closer to a rare bowl bid. They have four wins but only one more game (Kentucky) in which they will be favored. If Vandy is to make its second bowl game in 30 years, it looks like Rodgers will be the quarterback which gets them there. "Jordan has been able to eliminate some of the sacks with his feet, making people miss and turning negative yardage plays into some positive yardage plays," coach James Franklin said.
