getty images The Minnesota Vikings did not want to immediately address their quarterback situation following a blowout loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Matt Cassel played at quarterback for the Vikings going  32-of-44 for 241 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions. Though much of Cassel’s stats were accumulated late in a 35-10 home loss. With Josh Freeman signed recently and a 1-4 record the Vikings may be pressured to make a change with their signal caller. It seems unlikely that the Vikings would turn back to Christian Ponder who was ineffective prior to being injured. That may prompt Freeman, who sat on the sidelines in street clothes on Sunday, to start next weeks game against an 0-6 New York Giants team. When asked if Freeman would start in Week 7, Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier was non-committal. “I’m not sure,” Frazier said, via The Star Tribune. “We’ll take a look when we get with him this week and see where he is. We’ve done some things with him in this fi...

Vikings' Josh Freeman: Fresh start should be good for him and team

As the head coach at Vanderbilt University James Franklin admittedly struggles to stay abreast of news beyond college football and specifically the Southeastern Conference. According to league sources and as being reported on NFL.com, the Minnesota Vikings are prepared to give quarterback Josh Freeman, who was recently released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Week 7 start if he learns the playbook.  There was no questioning the disappointment of the Minnesota organization in incumbent quarterbacks Matt Cassel and Christian Ponder. Josh Freeman: savior of Minnesota Vikings shipwreck?

Josh Freeman may be the master at staring down his receivers (and therefore often incompleting passes) and he’s suffering from that recent curse of the jersey #5, but he’s also designated the savior in Minnesota. At least the man who’s being counted on to save the 2013 Minnesota Vikings season. It won’t be Christian Steele. Christian Ponder should be named after his wife...

Quarterback is NOT the biggest concern for the Vikings

Coming off a bye, the Vikings were back in the Metrodome this Sunday in a battle between two 1-3 NFC teams trying to get back in the playoff hunt. Playoffs were a long shot for the Vikings, but there was some optimism in Minnesota after winning their first game in London the week preceding the bye. Further, the schedule looked to be somewhat favorable, with a matchup with the Panthers...

Excuse me while I get smug

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a post about Matt Cassel vs Christian Ponder, entitled “Matt Cassel: What’s the Point?” It garnered some of the highest hit totals I have ever had here at the Rhino and Compass, and almost everyone disagreed with my opinion that Christian Ponder was a better quarterback than Matt Cassel. Actually, more accurately, my opinion that it made more...

Minnesota Vikings: Week 6 Recap

In my week 6 preview, I said the Vikings had to do three things well in order to win on Sunday; get great play from their offensive line, get good pressure on Cam Newton while containing his running game, and get good play from Matt Cassel at quarterback with an emphasis on zero turnovers. None of these three things happened, and it led to a long day for the team in purple. The Vikings...
