Here's to hoping that Josh Scobee doesn't leave the Jaguars for the same reason as Adam Podlesh did.

As I attempt to get back into things here at The Jaggernaut over the next month, I'll be taking a look at big topics. The first of which is the lack of progress made in Josh Scobee's contract situation.

Here's the truth of it. Brian McIntyre of NFL.com detailed the available cap space all 32 teams in the league currently have. The Jaguars have the most space in the league at just over $25.1 million.

In 2011, Josh Scobee was the 5th most accurate kicker in the league, hitting 92% (23/25) of his field goals. 2 of the kickers with a higher percentage of hit field goals kicked just 2 or less field goals, meaning that only 2 guys in the NFL were better than Scobee in terms of accuracy. Both of those guys, Matt Bryant and Connor Barth, kicked at 93% accuracy.

Matt Bryant and another very good kicker, Rob Bironas, are a couple of the best kickers in the NFL, and they've been at it for a long time. They're set to make $2.05 million and $2.85 million respectively. So the remaining question is, do the Jaguars think Scobee is worth $3 million per year?

The correct answer is yes. Josh Scobee will eventually sign his franchise tender. He has no leverage beyond holding out for awhile, but at some point, he'll be back on the field. That's not the problem. The problem is that I'm beginning to fear that the Jaguars are going to lose another kicker to contract negotiations (as they did with Adam Podlesh), and such an occurrence would be a shame.

So, here's my message to the Jaguars. You have over $25 million in cap room. Josh Scobee is one of the best kickers in the NFL today. Pay the man, and let's move on already.
