The Kansas City Chiefs’ 2014 season is right around the corner, which means one thing: Training Camp is comin’, ya’ll. We will be breaking down the Chiefs position-by-position over the next few weeks to get you prepared for Training Camp positional battles, and the pre-season as a whole. Wide Receiver Depth Chart: 1) Dwayne Bowe 2) Donnie Avery 3) AJ Jenkins 4) Junior Hemingway 5) Kyle Williams 6) Weston Dressler 7) Frankie Hammond 8) Fred Williams 9) Jerrell Jackson 10) Darryl Surgent Top Questions Heading into 2014: 3) Will any of the new, young guys be able to contribute? 2) Who (if anyone) will step up and at least resemble a number two option in the passing game? 1) Can Dwayne Bowe return to his pre-2012 form? cover32′s Analysis of the Chiefs Wide Receivers: There’s no if’s, and’s or but’s about it. Wide receiver is the weakest position on the Chiefs roster. Dwayne Bowe has taken a step back each of the past two years. There’s zero proven depth. The Chiefs struck out when it came time to add anyone of significance this offseason after getting next to nothing from the position in 2013. It’s going to take contributions from relative unknowns in order for the Chiefs to have a competent receiver corps. The Chiefs seem to be banking on A.J. Jenkins to have a breakout year and Donnie Avery returning to the player he was with the Indianapolis Colts. The production the Chiefs got from their receivers in 2013 was, quite frankly, unacceptable. Especially with how much they’re paying Dwayne Bowe. That has to change in 2014 for the Chiefs to have the success they enjoyed through the first nine weeks of 2013. We’ll all be looking for someone to step up. The question going into training camp will be whether that will actually happen or not.
