Sunday in Jacksonville, Kansas City’s Dustin Colquitt caught a snap and prepared to punt only to have it blocked and knocked out of the back of the end zone. The 2-point touchback early in the game ignited the Jaguars' fans and this looked to be just another bad start for Kansas City. However, this is not your under achieving Chiefs team of old.Alex Smith led the team hitting nine different receivers and throwing touchdown passes to receivers Donnie Avery and Junior Hemingway. Jamaal Charles ran for a touchdown and the Chiefs rolled to a 28-2 victory.Smith was very accurate passing, but what was really impressive was the defense. Justin Houston sacked Jacksonville quarterback Blaine Gabbert three times. Gabbert had several dropped passes by receivers, and after his team fell behind, began throwing interceptions due to the pressure.Outside linebacker Tamba Hali picked off one of the passes and rumbled in for a score. Defensive lineman and second-year player Dontari Poe had 1 ½ sacks and an assist and looks like a force in the middle.Jacksonville became so frustrated with the relentless pressure that Jacksonville center Brad Meester, literally pulled down defensive lineman Tyson Jackson’s pants in an effort to slow him down. It was a full moon in broad daylight. While both teams had similar records in 2012, the Chiefs have taken a more veteran approach to their offseason rebuild. The Jaguars and head coach Gus Bradley are taking a more youthful approach and it maybe a slow go.The Chiefs also have a lot of young talent that did not perform to their capabilities in 2012. That was made obvious on Sunday. Many suggested the Jacksonville heat would slow the Chiefs down and give the advantage to the Jags. The heat was a non-factor for Kansas City.Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has the team motivated and eager to play for him. Fans seem to be on board as well.“It was nice to see so much red in the lower bowl at Jacksonville,” Reid said. "The players really appreciate it and they played hard the entire game."Up next, Dallas at Arrowhead for the home opener, a team Reid knows all to well.
