The BCS system is far from perfect, and 2012′s bowl decisions will give its detractors plenty of added ammunition. The problem this year has nothing to do with the national championship but instead is centered around Northern Illinois of the Mid American Conference getting one of the at-large bids to play in the Orange Bowl. NIU finished 12-1 this year and won the MAC championship to finish 15th in the final BCS standings. ESPN personalities Jesse Palmer, David Pollack and Kirk Herbstreit all found reasons to disagree with the inclusion of the Huskies over powerhouse programs like Oklahoma. The Sooners were No. 11 in the final standings. “The fact that Northern Illinois is in the BCS in 2012 is really a sad state for college football and where we are in the current system,” Herbstreit said.
