TEAMS: New York Jets, Green Bay Packers
Kris Jenkins is the latest person to rip into the Jets and analyze their problems. A day after rookie quarterback Greg McElroy blasted the selfish attitude of certain Jets players, former Jets defensive tackle Kris Jenkins joined in. Jenkins believes McElroy took a leadership stance that starting quarterback Mark Sanchez should be assuming.
“The No. 1 quarterback should have said that a long time ago,” Jenkins said on The Mike Lupica Show. “It would have been all part of the process of him growing a pair and standing up and being a man. But the thing is, he lost his because he got caught up in the wash that is New York, the spotlight, taking pictures in the magazines and doing all that stuff. That’s just what everybody has seen with Mark Sanchez, they got tired of it.”
Jenkins is referring to the GQ photo shoot Sanchez did, one which fellow quarterback Aaron Rodgers called “embarrassing.” Jenkins said players get paid to be leaders, and his point was that Sanchez hasn’t been leading. Jenkins also feels Sanchez has the ability to be a good quarterback, but he feels like Sanchez doesn’t believe in himself.
We don’t think Sanchez is going to last long as the team’s starter. If he does, it will be costly for Rex Ryan. Sanchez somehow fooled the Jets into believing he was a top quarterback but they need to realize that’s not the case.
