Jaguars cornerback Will Blackmon was out of work a month ago. Now he’s the Jaguars’ leading cornerback in terms of snaps played this season. Blackmon was cut by Seattle on Aug. 27. He signed with the Jaguars a day later. “I was excited just to be on a roster” Blackmon said. He’s more than a name on the roster now. Blackmon has started the last two games for the Jaguars in place of injured rookie Dwayne Gratz who suffered a high ankle sprain in the opener against Kansas City. Blackmon is expected to start his third consecutive game Sunday when the Jaguars (0-3) host AFC South rival Indianapolis (2-1) at EverBank Field. The decision to sign Blackmon has worked out well for the Jaguars. “It’s been very good for us” Jaguars coach Gus Bradley said. “He’s played a lot of ball for us already in a short period of time. I think his leadership too. He’s playing the game he played in the Super Bowl and I think that experience that he brings helps out our guys.” In his six previous seasons in the NFL Blackmon had started two career games prior to joining the Jaguars. He’s already set a career high for pass breakups in a season with two. Blackmon’s season-best tackle total is 19 set in 2008 and he already has 11. He logged 29 snaps in relief of Gratz in a 28-2 loss to the Chiefs. Blackmon then played every snap (63 plays) in a 19-9 loss at Oakland. Last Sunday Blackmon played 56 snaps before being knocked from the game with a head contusion. Luckily for the Jaguars Blackmon suffered a contusion and not a concussion. “I just got my bell rung” Blackmon said. “I was good once I got to the sideline. We were just being smart. I got stunned for a bit but I was fine once I got to the sideline. I recovered fine.” Prior to leaving the game Blackmon was the lone veteran presence. Free safety Dwight Lowery left the game with a concussion on the second play. With cornerback Alan Ball already out with a groin injury three rookies were left in the secondary with the 28-year-old Blackmon.
